Mets Beat Reds 6-4 in 10 Innings Powered By Vientos Walk Off Homer

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 tonight at Citi Field in 10 innings for their eighth consecutive win and improved their record to 77-64.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the bottom of the sixth after 1B Pete Alonso doubled with two outs and then pinch-hitter Jose Iglesias followed with a RBI single.

D.H. J.D. Martinez then hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the tenth, Vientos led off the bottom of the ninth and capped off his night with a two-run walk-off homer for his 24th homer of the season.

LHP Sean Manaea started out well with three scoreless innings and then gave up a two-run to SS Ella De La Cruz in the top of the fourth.

Manaea had scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth and then gave up another two-run homer this time to CF T.J. Friedl in the top of the seventh and was taken out with two outs in the seventh.

His final line was 6.2 innings, three hits, four runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and had a dominating inning striking out the side on 14 pitches.

RHP Jose Butto threw a scoreless top of the 10th and picked up his seventh win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, September 7 at 4:10 p.m.
