Mets Rout Nationals 10-1 Powered By Three Homers

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 10-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 83-68.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings and then broke through for four runs in the bottom of the third.

CF Harrison Bader led off with a walk and then SS Luisangel Acuna followed with a RBI double.

2B Jose Iglesias then reached on an infield hit and RF Starling Marte followed with a walk.

1B Pete Alonso followed by reaching on an infield single to score Acuna and Iglesias and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with his ninth homer of the season and third in his last five starts.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alonso led off with a double and two batters later, LF Tyrone Taylor drove him in with a RBI double.

In the bottom of the sixth, Acuna and Iglesias singled with one out and two batters later, Alonso broke the game open with a three-run homer for his third, fourth and fifth RBI of the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Acuna capped off his stellar night at the plate with a solo homer for the first homer of his career.

He went 3-4 on the night with a single, double and homer with two RBI and three runs scored.

RHP Tylor Megill had a solid start allowing one unearned run on two hits in four innings retiring the last 10 hitters he faced.

Megill gave up two walks with four strikeouts.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 4.08.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Alex Young closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 18 at home against the Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
