Mets Lose to Padres 2-0 and are almost no-hit

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 2-0 tonight in San Diego for their second cosecutive loss and dropped their record to 27-23.
LHP Joey Lucchesi got the start against his former team and had a tough bottom of the first inning giving up a solo homer to 3B Manny Machado.
Luchessi settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third, and fourth innings.
He got into some trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off bunt single to RF Wil Myers and then two battes later, a single to catcher Webster Rivas.
Luchessi retired Padres starter LHP Blake Snell on a ground-out and then was taken out with runners on second and third with two out.
RHP Jacob Barnes came on and was able to retire LF Tommy Phan on a ground-out to end the inning.
Luchessi's final line was 4.2 innings, 4 hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts.
RHP Drew Smith followed in the bottom of the sixth with a scorless inning, but ran ino trouble in the bottom of the seventh after he gave up a lead-off double to Myers and hit then CF Jurickson Profar.
Smith was able to get Rivas to ground into a double play, but then walked pinch-hitter Tucapita Marcano and was taken out.
RHP Jeurys Familia came on and walked Phan to load the bases and then walked Machado which brought in another run, but retired 2B Jake Croneworth to end the inning.
RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
The offense struggled against Padres LHP Blake Snell and didn't have a base-runner until the top of the fifth inning when RF Billy McKinney walked.
In the top of the seventh, they had their best scoring opportunity after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a singe and advanced to third om a two-base error by Phan.
Catcher James McCann followed with a strike-out and then 1B Pete Alonso poppped out and then 3B Brandon Drury struck out to end the inning.
McKinney led off with a walk in the top of the eighth and then 2B Jose Peraza grounded out into a force play and pinch-hitter Dom Smith struck out and then pinch-hitter Travis Blankenhorn grounded out to end the inning.
CF Kevin Pillar struck out to lead off the top of the ninth against Padres closer Mark Melancon and then Lindor singled, but McCann struck out on a close pitch that got McCann thrown out and than manager Luis Rojas was thrown out for coming out to argue defending McCann. Bench coach Dave Jaus took over as manager.
Alonso was able to come up and single, but Drury struck out for the last out of the game.
The Mets next game is at the Padres tomorrow night at 10:10 p.m.
