It was the most runs that the Mets have ever given up to the Braves and also the third-worst margin of loss in franchise history. LHP David Peterson had a difficult outing allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits in three innings. He gave up one walk and two strikeouts. Peterson left the game in the bottom of the fourth with right-side tightness. RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and also struggled allowing five runs on five hits with a walk. Reid-Foley recorded only out in the inning. LHP Thomas Szapucki appeared next in his ML debut in a difficult spot with men on base and had a tough first outing allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings with three walks and four strikeouts. CF Albert Almora Jr had to come in and pitch in the bottom of the eighth with the game long out of reach and gave up a three-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies. The lone highlight of the game came in the top of the first after CF Kevin Pillar led off with a double on the first pitch he saw against Braves starter LHP Max Fried and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.
