Mets Lose to Orioles 10-3 after David Peterson continues to struggle

Mets LHP David Peterson (Photo Credits to Mitch Stringer-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 10-3 tonight in Baltimore and dropped their record to 29-24. LHP David Peterson started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning after he gave up a lead-off single to catcher Pedro Severino and then a double to 3B Maikel Franco. Peterson gave up a two-run double to the following hitter 2B Pat Valaika and two batters later a RBI double to CF Cedric Mullins and then finally finshed the inning with three runs. Peterson gave up a one-out double to SS Freddy Galvis in the bottom of the third and then an infield hit to Severino and two batters later a RBI double to Valaika and was taken out. His final line was 2.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellmann had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the third inning. Gsellman stayed in for the bottom of the fourth and gave up a run on an infield single by DH Trey Mancini. Gsellman was still in the game in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a lead-off single to Galvis, walked Severino and then gave up a three-run homer to Franco which broke the game open. RHP Jacob Barnes came on in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a double to RF Anthony Santander and then a RBI double to the following hitter 1B Ryan Mountcastle. RHP Drew Smith followed in the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning, but gave up a solo homer to Santander in the bottom of the eighth. The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer. The bats didn't do much else except for in the top of the ninth when Alonso hit a solo homer, his second homer of the game. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Orioles at 7:06 p.m.
