Mets Lose a Heartbreaker to the San Diego Padres 4-3 and can't get timely hit

Mets SS Francisco Lindor (Photo Credits to Orlando Ramriez-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 4-3 tonight in San Diego and dropped their record to 27-22. RHP Tijuan Walker started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up a one-out single and then a two-run homer to star SS Fernando Tatis Jr that went off of CF Mason William's glove. Walker gave up another in the bottom of the fourth after he walked Padres catcher Victor Caratini and then allowed a double to Padres starter RHP Yu Darvish and a RBI single to CF Jurickson Profar. Walker gave up an infield hit to Tatis Jr in the bottom of the fifth who then advanced to second on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a wild pitch and Walker was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs ( 3 earned runs), four walks and two strikeouts. RHP Jacob Barnes followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. LHP Aaron Loup then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. The bats went silent against Darvish for the five innings until the top of the sixth when SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and catcher James McCann followed with a two-run homer. LF Dom Smith then was hit by a pitch and RF Billy McKinney walked. 3B Brandon Drury followed by reaching on an error by Tatis Jr on a fielder's choice which loaded the bases. Pete Alonso came up as the pinch-hitter but grounded into a double play to end the inning and a further scoring threat. In the top of the eighth inning, Lindor led off with a walk after McCann and LF Dom Smith were retired, McKinney hit a deep triple to right field to bring in Lindor, but Drury grounded out to end the innin. In the top of the ninth, pinch-hitter Tomas Nido led off the inning with a single and 2B Jose Peraza walked, but Travis Blankenhorn grounded out to 3B Manny Machado and then CF Kevin Pillar grounded into a double play to end the game. The Mets next game is at the Padres tomorrow night at 10:10 p.m.
