Mets Beat Diamondbacks 6-2 Behind Pete Alonso and Jacob deGrom

Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (Photo Credits to Mary Holt-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 tonigth in Arizona for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 26-20. The offense was scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third inning after 2B Jose Peraza singled and CF Mason Williams followed with a single. Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor singled to load the bases and then 1B Pete Alonso came up in his first game off the injured list with a two-run single to score Peraza and Williams. In the top of the fourth, Peraza hit a double with two outs after a miscommunications between outfielders LF David Peralta and CF Ketel Marte and then RHP Jacob deGrom came up and helped out his own cause with a RBI single. The bats went quiet for the next two innings until the top of the seventh when 3B Jonathan Villar singled and after SS Francisco Lindor struck out, 1B Pete Alonso came up and delivered with a two-run homer to left field that went 442 feet for third and fourth RBI of the night. RF Billy McKinney hit a solo homer in the top of the eighth. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start with six scoreless innings allowing two hits with eight strikeouts in his return from the injured list. deGrom was dominant and retired the first 13 hitters he faced. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 0.71. RHP Trevor May followed and had a difficult outing allowing two runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Migeul Castro had to come in and was helped out his defense after Williams made a spectcular catch in centerfield to rob 2B Domino Leyba of at least an extra base hit to end the inning. Castro stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and quickly retired the two batters, and then gave up back-to-back hits, but was helped out by his defense after Villar made a nice play at third base to end the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the bottom of the ninth and also retired his two hitters and then gave up a double to RF Josh Reddick, but came back to strike out Leyba for the final out of the game. The Mets next game is at the Diamondbacks tomorrow night at 9:40 p.m.
