Mets vs. Reds Game 28 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 tonight and dropped their record to 14-14. RHP Zack Wheeler had a scoreless top of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the top of the second and giving up back-to-back walks and then an RBI double to SS Jose Inglesias. He gave up a RBI single to catcher Tucker Barnhardt and another RBI single to CF Jose Peraza and then a sacrifice fly to 3B Eugenio Suarez. After that Wheeler settled down with scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth. His final line was four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks in six innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz gave up a solo homer to LF Jesse Winker in the top of the ninth inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, RF Michael Conforto and catcher Wilson Ramos doubled to bring home the first run of the game. SS Amed Rosario drove in Ramos with an RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth inning, 1B Pete Alonso and LF Brandon Nimmo both drew based loaded walks to tie the game. After that, the offense went quiet the rest of the way and left 13 men on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Reds at 7:10 p.m.
