Mets vs. Marlins Game 6 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 6-4 tonight to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 5-1. RHP Jacob deGrom had another incredible performance with 14 strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. This is a career-high in strikeouts for deGrom. He gave up three hits with one walk. He has started the season with 13 consecutive scoreless innings combined with 26 scoreless innings dating back to the end of last season for a combined total of 39 scoreless innings. degrom tied Bob Gibon for most consecutive quality starts (three runs or less in six innings) with 26. deGrom had his 31st consecutive start of allowing three runs or less. He is the first Met pitcher to have 10 strikeouts or more in his first two starts. After deGrom was taken out, LHP Luis Avilan threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning, but Avilan stayed in for the bottom of the ninth and gave up three runs. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and gave up a run in the ninth. RHP Edwin Diaz had to come in to close it out and he got the last out to pick up his third save.

The offense was held scoreless in the top of the first inning, but broke through in the top of the second inning after CF Keon Broxton singled and SS Amed Rosario hit an RBI triple. In the top of the third inning, deGrom capped out his dominant performance with a solo homer, the second homer of his career. He is the 12th Mets pitcher to have at least two career homers. RF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk and 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI double. Alonso's double had an exit velocity of 107 mph. It was his fourth double of the season and fifth extra base hit. In the top of the seventh inning, Alonso singled and 2B Robinson Cano drove him with an RBI double. In the top of the eighth inning, 3B J.D Davis reached on an error and came around to score on an RBI single by 1B Dominic Smith. Smith scored on an RBI single by catcher Wilson Ramos.

The Mets next game is their home opener against the Washington Nationals tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 P.M.
