The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-2 tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 9-4. LF Brandon Nimmo broke out of slump after he hit a two-run homer to drive in the first two runs of the game. Manager Mickey Callaway moved Nimmo down to eighth in the order and he responded with three hits. 3B Jeff McNeil hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth. 2B Robinson Cano followed with an RBI double. RF Michael Conforto kept the inning going with an RBI double. 1B Dominic Smith filled in for Pete Alonso after a day off and hit a single and double. The Mets tied a franchise record with six runs in six straight games.
RHP Zack Wheeler bounced back after his last two rough outings against the Washington Nationals with six strong innings. Wheeler gave up two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. He picked up first win. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning and lowered his ERA to 1.35. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with the last six outs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings. Lugo gave up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Braves at 7:20 P.M.
