The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 6-0 tonight to drop their record to 13-11, but took two out of three games in the series. LHP Jason Vargas got the start and looked better than in his previous outing. Vargas gave up a run in the top of the first after a couple of doubles and walk, but settled down after that. He retired 11 out of the last 15 batters he faced. His final line was one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. RHP Seth Lugo had to come to get the last out in the top of the fifth and stayed in for the top of the sixth  and seventh and threw two scoreless innings. RHP Robert Gsellman came in the top of the eighth inning and gave up a lead-off triple to 1B Rhys Hoskins, an RBI single to 3B Maikel Franco and a single to 2B Cesar Hernandez and then SS Sean Rodriguez hit a sacrifice bunt. Gsellman gave up two more runs on back-to-back RBI singles, but was able to finish the inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme came in the top of the ninth inning again and gave up a two-run homer to Hoskins.

The offense was lifeless tonight against Phillies starter Vince Velasquez. They managed six hits and three hits. It was the second time they were shutout dating back to their home opener on April 4th against the Nationals.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday night against the Brewers at 7:10 p.m.
