The New York Mets lost to the Minnesota Twins 14-8 last night for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 6-4. RHP Jacob deGrom had a strong top of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the top of the second inning. He gave up a homer to catcher Mitch Garver to lead off the inning to snap his 27 inning scoreless streak and wound up throwing 31 pitches in the inning. In the top of the third inning, deGrom's struggles continued after he gave up a triple to SS Jorge Polanco and then allowed him to score on a wild pitch. He allowed a solo homer to SS Eddie Rosario and another homer to Mitch Garland later in the inning. In the top of the fourth inning, deGrom gave up a double to CF Byron Buxton and a RBI single to RF Max Kepler and was taken out after the inning. deGrom had a rare off night and struggled with command of his fastball and slider. It happens to everyone including one of the best pitchers in baseball. His final line was 4 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.  RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless top of the fifth inning, but allowed a solo homer to 2B Jonathan Schoop in the top of the sixth. LHP Luis Avilan followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up three unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning due to an error by 1B Pete Alonso on a ground-ball by Byron Buxton which allowed a run to score. He later gave up a two-run homer to Jorge Polanco. LHP Jason Vargas gave up four runs in the top of the ninth inning after he allowed a lead-off double to Schoop and a single to Mitch Garland. Vargas capped out the Mets struggles on the mound after he gave up a three-run homer to 2B Jonathan Schoop which put the game out of reach.

The offense came to play after RF Michael Conforto doubled in the bottom of the second inning, 3B J.D Davis walked and SS Amed Rosario drove in Conforto with an RBI single. In the bottom of the third inning, CF Brandon Nimmo homered and two batters later, Michael Conforto also hit a solo homer. In the bottom of the seventh inning, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Alonso hit another homer, this time a two-run shot. This gave up him a Met record of five homers in his first 10 games. LF Jeff McNeil drove in a run in the inning with a based loaded walk. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Twins at 7:10 P.M.
