The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-3 tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 8-4 on the season. The offense broke out in the top of the second inning after RF Michael Conforto and Catcher Wilson Ramos walked and SS Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer, his first of the season to dead center field. The bats went quiet after that until the top of the sixth inning after Ramos and 3B Jeff McNeil singled. Rosario drove in his fourth run on the night with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh, LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and 1B Pete Alonso continued his torrid start with a two-run homer to center field that went 454 feet and an exit velocity of 118 miles hour. He now had 6 homers and 17 RBI's which is second in the National League and his .909 slugging percentage is second in the Majors behind Mike Trout.

LHP Steven Matz gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI double by LF Jorge Camargo but settled down after that. Matz retired 13 hitters in a row and got into a groove. He was mixing in his change-up well and throwing it effectively to both sides of plate. His final line was 6 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 1.65. He picked up his first win since July 26th. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and loaded the bases, but was able to escape out of trouble after he struck out 2B Ozzie Albies and got 3B Josh Donaldson in a force out to end the inning. LHP Luis Avilan followed in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to 2B Ozzie Albies and was taken out. RHP Jeurys Familia had to come in to get the last two outs of the inning on strikeouts. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning to close out and gave up a lead-off single to catcher Tyler Flowers and a double to Donaldson, but struck out 1B Freddie Freeman to end the game and picked up his fifth save.
