The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 11-7 tonight and dropped their record to 9-5. LHP Jason Vargas had another rough outing allowing four runs on three hits and two walks in 1/3 of an inning. Vargas now has a 14.21 ERA. It's time to move him out of the rotation. They can't afford to have him ruin any chance of victory when he takes the mound. RHP Corey Oswalt followed and gave up five runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Oswalt now has a 12.27 ERA. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and gave up a run in two innings on a RBI single to SS Dwansby Swanson. RHP Robert Gsellman also gave up a run in two innings on a solo homer by 3B Josh Donaldson.
The offense was resilient and scored four runs in the top of the second inning. CF Juan Lagares hit a two-run double. Reliever Corey Oswalt hit a sacrifice fly. 3B Jeff McNeil tied the game with a RBI single. McNeil set a franchise record with his 90th hit in his first 76 games that has been previously held by Jose Reyes.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Braves at 7:05 tomorrow night on Sunday Night Baseball.
