The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 10-2 this afternoon and dropped their record to 11-9. RHP Chris Flexen was brought up from Triple-A Syracuse to make the start in place of RHP Jacob deGrom who has a sore elbow. Flexen had a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but had a difficult bottom of the second inning after giving up an unearned run due to a passed ball by catcher Wilson Ramos and a two-run single to Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas. It only got worse for Flexen  in the bottom of the third inning after he gave up a RBI single to RF Jose Martinez and a sacrifice fly to catcher Yadier Moliana. Flexen gave up an RBI single to Moliana in the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out. His final line was 4.1 innings, 7 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 4 walks and 0 strikeouts. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and was able to finish the bottom of the fifth, but gave up an RBI double to SS Paul DeJong in the bottom of the sixth. Avilan was taken out in the middle of the sixth for RHP Jacob Rhyme. Rhyme finished out the bottom of the sixth,  but gave up a two-run double to Martinez in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Paul Sewald gave up a solo homer to 1B Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The bats were shut down against Cardinals RHP Mike Mikolas and were held scoreless for the first six scoreless innings. In the top of the seventh, LF Jeff McNeil singled and SS Amed Rosario drove him with a RBI triple. 3B J.D. Davis followed with a RBI ground-out to score Rosario.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 p.m. against the Cardinals in the final game of the series.
