The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 5-4 tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 53-64. RHP Jacob deGrom had a strong start, but struggled in the later innings. deGrom allowed two homers to catcher Gary Sanchez and CF Jacoby Ellsbury and has now allowed 23 home runs on the season. He allowed five runs on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings. degrom gave up two walks and had four strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and got the second out in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Chasen Bradford followed and recorded the last out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Mets offense was scoreless for the first six innings, but broke through in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run homer by rookie 1B Dominic Smith. It was Smith's first home run in the Major League. Rookie SS Amed Rosario also hit a two-run homer off Yankees closer LHP Aroldis Chapman in the top of the ninth inning. It was a great sign to see the Mets two young rookies hit homers on a big stage. Hopefully it will be a sign of things to come as they both grow and develop in their careers.
