The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 8-1 tonight to snap their five-game losing streak record and improve their record to 54-67. RHP Rafael Montero had another strong start and allowing two runs in his last start against the Yankees. He gave up one run on six hits in six innings. Montero allowed three walks and had five strikeouts. He has showed more confidence in his last two starts. Montero is attacking hitters with his change-up and fastball. Hopefully he can build off this and become a part of the rotation next year. Montero picked up his second win of the season. RHP Hansel Robles followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. RHP Chasen Bradford pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense was scoreless for the first five innings, but exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. LH Michael Conforto reached on an error which brought home two runs. 3B Wilmer Flores hit a two-run homer. Catcher Kevin Plawecki also hit a two-run homer, his first on the season. 1B Dominic Smith added a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.
