The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 4-2 tonight and dropped their record to 53-63. RHP Rafael Montero had his best outing of the season and was able to get out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, he allowed a game-tying homer to RF Aaron Judge. Montero allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. He gave up two walks and had six strikeouts and wound up with a no-decision. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning, but came back out for the bottom of the eighth and allowed a solo homer to CF Aaron Hicks. RHP Erik Goeddel appeared next and gave up a solo homer to catcher Gary Sanchez.
The Mets offense was quiet all night against Yankees starter RHP Luis Cessa and the Yankees bullpen. DH Curtis Granderson and LF Yoenis Cespedes drove home the only runs of the game with solo homers in the top of the third inning. After that, the Mets had only four hits the rest of the way.
