The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 tonight for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 49-60. LHP Steven Matz had another rough start and was unable to make it out of the top of the fifth inning. Matz gave up three runs in the top of the first after allowing a two-run double to second baseman Logan Forsythe and a RBI single to catcher Austin Barnes. He allowed a two-run homer to 3B Justin Turner in the top of the third inning. Matz wound up allowing five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He had seven strikeouts and two walks. Matz has given up five runs or more in four out of his last six starts. RHP Erik Goedell came in next and was able to get the last two outs in the top of the sixth inning. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. LHP Josh Smoker allowed a two-run homer to 1B Cody Bellinger in the top of the eighth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos gave up a RBI triple to LF Chris Taylor in the top of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense struggled all night against Dodgers starter LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu and had only one hit on a single by catcher Travis d'Arnaud.
