The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins for their fifth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 53-67. RHP Chris Flexen got the start and had an average performance. Flexen allowed a two-run homer to catcher J.T. Realmunto in the top of the second inning. He gave up another in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by LF Marcel Ozuna. Flexen allowed three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He gave up four walks and had one strikeout. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and got the last two outs in the top of the sixth inning and also pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense struggled against Marlins starter LHP Justin Nicolino and had six hits and one run in five innings. 1B Wilmer Flores drove home the only run on an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning.
