The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-4 today for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 30-37. RHP Seth Lugo made his second start of the season and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Lugo gave up two walks and had five strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and got the last out in the top of the seventh. RHP Paul Sewald allowed two runs in the top of the eighth. RHP Addison Reed allowed a run in the top of the ninth.
The Mets offense was led by LF Yoenis Cespedes who had four hits and hit a solo homer. 3B Wilmer Flores grounded into a double play with the based loaded and also hit a sacrifice fly. SS Jose Reyes added a RBI single.
