Mets vs. Braves Game 59 Recap (Game 1 of Doubleheader)

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-1 today in Game 1 of their doubleheader. RHP Robert Gsellman had another outstanding start and pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts. He has an ERA of 2.16 over his last four starts. LHP Jerry Blevins came in to get the last out in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Fernando Salas came in for the bottom of the eighth and was taken out after allowing a homer to Brandon Phillip and an error by Jose Reyes.  LHP Josh Edgin got one out and then was taken out. RHP Addison Reed closed it out with a five-out save, his tenth on the year.

The Mets offense got two sacrifice flies by 2B T.J. Rivera in the top of the second inning and 1B Wilmer Flores in the top of the eighth inning. LF Yoenis Cespedes broke the game open in the top of the ninth inning after LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a grand slam, his seventh home run on the season.
