The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-1 tonight to lose two out of three games in the series and drop their record to 24-31. RHP Tyler Pill got the start and allowed five runs ( three earned) on eight hits in five hits. Pill was hurt by his poor defense behind him and in particular LF Michael Conforto who made two errors. He gave no walks and had four strikeouts. After Pill was taken out, RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. LHP Josh Edgin allowed a run in the top of the seventh inning. RHP Neil Ramirez allowed two runs in the top of the eighth. LHP Josh Smoker allowed three runs in the top on the ninth on a three-run homer by CF Andrew McCutchen.
The only run the Mets were able to score was on a double-play groundout by catcher Travis d'Arnaud in the bottom of the second inning.
