The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-2 tonight for their second consecutive start and dropped their record to 30-36. LHP Steven Matz made his second start of the season and had a rough outing after a great performance in his first start of the year last Saturday. Matz allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings. He gave up no walks and had four strikeouts. RHP Paul Sewald followed and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Neil Ramirez came in next and gave up two runs in the top of the ninth inning. RHP Fernando Salas appeared after Ramirez was taken out and gave up a based loaded walk.
The Mets offense had two solo homers form SS Jose Reyes in the bottom of the eighth inning and RF Jay Bruce in the bottom of the ninth inning.
