Mets vs. Phillies Game 79 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 tonight for their third consecutive win and sixth in their last seven games to improve their record to 37-42. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start and allowed one run on three hits in seven innings and picked up his eighth win. deGrom allowed one walk and had 12 strikeouts. He is 4-0 in his last four starts with an 0.84 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 32 innings. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and got the first two outs in the top of the eighth. RHP Paul Sewald got the last out in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning and recorded his 13th save of the season.

The Mets offense had only two runs, but it was more than enough with the dominant pitching from deGrom. RF Curtis Granderson hit a RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud also hit a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Mets vs. Marlins Game 78 Recap

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 6-3 for their second consecutive win to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 36-42. RF Jay Bruce continued his hot stretch with two hits and two RBI's. Bruce hit a RBI single in the top of the first and hit a RBI double in the top of the third. 1B T.J. Rivera had three and also had 2 RBI's after hitting an RBI double in the top of the first inning and an RBI single in the top of the third inning. CF Curtis Granderson hit a RBI ground-out in the top of the seventh inning. SS Jose Reyes added a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning.

RHP Seth Lugo had a solid outing and allowed three runs  (two earned) on six hits in seven innings. Lugo gave up one walk and had four strikeouts. He picked up his third win. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Josh Edgin came in next and had a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Addison Reed closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and recorded his twelfth save on the season.

Mets vs. Marlins Game 77 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 8-0 tonight to snap their one-game losing streak to improve their record to 35-42 and have now won four out of their last five games. The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after 2B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run homer. SS Jose Reyes added a RBI single in the top of the first. The Mets were unable to score until the top of the seventh inning and wound up scoring three runs. 3B T.J. Rivera grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run and CF Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer. Pinch-hitter OF Brandon Nimmo hit a two run single in the top of the eighth inning.

LHP Steven Matz made his fourth start of the season and had his best outing. Matz pitched seven shutout innings and allowed four hits. He gave up one walk and had four strikeouts. He picked up his second win of the season. LHP Josh Edgin pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Chasen Bradford closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.

Mets vs. Marlins Game 76 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 6-3 tonight to snap their three-game winning streak and drop their record to 34-42. RHP Robert Gsellman got the start and allowed three runs on five runs in three innings. He gave up no walks and had four strikeouts. Gsellman had to come out after three innings due to an injury that he suffered while running to first base in the top of the third. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and pitched three scoreless innings. RHP Neil Ramirez appeared next in the bottom of the seventh and allowed a lead-off walk to catcher J.T. Realmunto and a single to SS J.T. Riddle that went off of 1B Lucas Duda's glove. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and allowed a RBI single to pinch-hitter Ichiro Suzuki. Blevins intentionally walked RF Giancarlo Stanton to load the based loaded and then gave up a two-run single to CF Christian Yelich. RHP Erik Goedell had to come in next to get the last out in the bottom of the seventh as well as pitching scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start after RF Curtis Granderson hit a lead-off homer in the top of the first inning. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI single in the fourth inning and a game-tying solo homer in the top of the eighth inning.

Mets vs. Giants Game 75 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 8-2 today to sweep the three-game series and improve their record to 34-41 . RF Jay Bruce had 3 RBI's with  a two-run homer and had an RBI groundout. Catcher Rene Rivera hit two homers and also had 3 RBI's.  RF Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer, and also had two walks and a single. 1B Lucas Duda added a RBI double.

RHP Rafael Montero had a strong outing after his last two successful appearances in the bullpen. Montero allowed one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. He had two walks with seven strikeouts. He picked up his first win of the season. LHP Josh Edgin came in and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins allowed a run in the bottom of the eighth and was to get one out. RHP Fernando Salas appeared next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the eighth. RHP Chase Bradford made his MLB debut in the bottom of the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning.

Mets vs. Giants Game 74 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-2 tonight for the second consecutive win and improved their record to 33-41. 3B Wilmer Flores led the Mets offense with two RBI's. Flores hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth and a RBI double in the top of the eighth. RF Jay Bruce hit a RBI double in the top of the eighth. OF Michael Conforto hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the ninth and later scored on a wild pitch.

RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start and allowed one run on four hits in eight innings. He gave up one walk and had seven strikeouts. deGrom has now had three consecutive starts going eight or more innings and given up a total of three runs with a 0.72 ERA in that time. RHP Addison Reed allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to record the last three outs to close the game out.

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles 6-3 last night to drop their record to 31-41 and were swept in the four-game series. Matz gave five walks, two home runs to Justin Turner and Enrique Hernandez, and had eight strikeouts.  RHP Paul Sewald came in next in the bottom of the seventh and allowed a solo homer to Joc Peterson before getting out of the inning.  LHP Jerry Blevins allowed two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Tyler Pill made his third start of the season and had a difficult outing. Pill allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings. He allowed three walks, two homers and had six strikeouts. RHP Neil Ramirez came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. Ramirez went back out for the bottom of the eighth and gave up two runs, two hits, and two walks, He was unable to finish the inning after recording two outs. The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-0 last night to lose their second consecutive game and drop their record to 31-39. RHP Robert Gsellman struggled for his second consecutive start and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. Gsellman gave up four home runs and has now allowed six homers in his last 9 1/3 innings. He allowed three walks and had two strikeouts. LHP Josh Edgin came in next and allowed four runs on thee hits in 3 1/3 innings. He also gave up three walks and a homer.  RHP Fernando Salas followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start after pitching a complete game in his last start. deGrom allowed 1 run (0 earned) on three hits in eight innings. In addition to deGrom's success on the mound, he also hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning, the first of his career. LHP Steven Matz made his second start of the season and had a rough outing after a great performance in his first start of the year last Saturday. Matz allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings. He gave up no walks and had four strikeouts. RHP Paul Sewald followed and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Neil Ramirez came in next and gave up two runs in the top of the ninth inning. RHP Fernando Salas appeared after Ramirez was taken out and gave up a based loaded walk.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 65 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-3 tonight and dropped their record to 30-35. RHP Robert Gsellman got the start and had a rough outing allowing the most runs in his Major League career. Gsellman allowed a homer to RF Bryce Harper in the top of the first inning and settled down until the top of the fourth inning. In the top of the fourth, he gave up an RBI single to LHP Gio Gonzalez. In the top of the fifth inning, it all unraveled for Gsellman as he allowed five runs on a two-run homer by 2B Daniel Murphy, two-run single by 3B Anthony Rendon and a solo homer by CF Michael Taylor.  LHP Josh Edgin followed and gave up an RBI single to RF Brian Goodwin. RHP Rafael Montero came in next and pitched three scoreless innings.

The Mets offense struggled against Nationals starter LHP Gio Gonzalez and scored two runs against him on a RBI double by RF Jay Bruce in the bottom of the fourth and a solo homer by catcher Rene Rivera in the bottom of the fifth. 3B Wilmer Flores added a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Matt Harvey Out With Several Weeks With Shoulder Injury

New York Mets RHP Matt Harvey will be out several weeks with a shoulder injury. Harvey was diagnosed with a stress injury to the scapula bone in his right shoulder after an MRI today.

Neil Walker Out with Partial Tear of Left Hamstring

The New York Mets announced earlier today that 2B Neil Walker has been diagnosed with a partial tear of his left hamstring after undergoing an MRI today and will be out several weeks. Infielder Gavin Cecchini has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegss.

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-4 tonight to take two out of three games in the series and improve their record to 30-34. RHP Matt Harvey got off to a rocky start in the top of the first inning after allowing back-to-back homers to 1B Anthony Rizzo and 2B Ian Happ. Harvey settled down and retired 10 out of the next 11 Cubs hitters before getting in trouble again in the top of the fourth. He gave up a two-run homer to LF Kyle Schwarber and then was taken out. Harvey allowed four runs on four hits in four innings. He gave up one walk and had five strikeouts. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and pitched two scoreless innings. RHP Fernando Salas and LHP Jerry Blevins combined to pitch a scoreless top of the seventh inning. Blevins came back out for the top of the eighth and wound up picking up his fourth win on the season. RHP Addison Reed closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets offense got an early run in the bottom of the second inning after SS Jose Reyes reached on an error which brought home a run. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LHP Steven Matz pinch-hit and drove in a run after hitting an infield single and CF Juan Lagares hit a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the sixth, Lagares hit a RBI triple to tie the game. LF Curtis Granderson hit the go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. 1B Lucas Duda hit a three-run homer later in the inning, Infielder T.J. Rivera added a RBI single to cap off the five-run bottom of the eighth.

Mets Recall Rafael Montero

The New York Mets announced earlier today that they have recalled RHP Rafael Montero from Triple-A Las Vegas. Montero has a record of 0-4  with a 8.24 ERA in 13 games (2 starts) this year. Montero was called up to add an extra arm to the Mets bullpen after RHP Zack Wheeler went 2 1/3 innings last night,

Mets vs. Cubs Game 63 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 14-3 tonight to snap their four-game winning streak and drop their record to 29-34. RHP Zack Wheeler got the start and had a rough outing and was not able to make it out of the second inning. Wheeler allowed a leadoff homer to 1B Anthony Rizzo in the top of the first inning. In the top of the second inning, it all unraveled for him after he allowed seven runs. Wheeler allowed a based loaded walk to Rizzo and then gave up a grand slam to 2B Ian Happ. He gave up another run on a RBI single by SS Addison Russel. Wheeler was finally taken out in the top of the second inning after allowing 3B Kris Bryant and RF Jayson Heyward singled and Russel drove them home with a two-run double. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and did an admirable job. Smoker allowed three runs in four innings, while throwing 81 pitches. RHP Neil Ramirez followed and allowed a run in 2 1/3 innings. LHP Josh Edgin allowed a two-run homer to 3B Javier Baez in the top of the ninth.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start after LF Yoenis Cespdes hit a RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. They weren't able to score any more runs until the bottom of the inning after 1B Lucas Duda and 2B Neil Walker hit back-to-back homers.

Asdrubal Cabrera Goes on DL

The New York Mets announced earlier today that SS Asdrubal Cabrera has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left thumb sprain. Infielder T.J. Rivera has been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas as a corresponding roster move. Cabrera has struggled this year both offensively and defensively. He has hit only .244 this tear after hitting .280 last year. Last night Cabrera made his eleventh error of the season. Rivera has hit .255 with two homers and 13 RBI's in 40 games this year.

Mets Draft David Peterson with 20th Overall Pick

Last night, the New York Mets drafted LHP David Peterson with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. Peterson projects to be a middle of the rotation starter and is on the fast track to the big leagues. He had a record of 11-4 this year and a 2.51 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP with 140 strikeouts in 100 innings. Peterson is known to have great control. He was previously drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 28th round of the 2014 draft.

Mets vs. Cubs Game 62 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-1 tonight for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 29-33.

Pitching:
RHP Jacob deGrom had an outstanding outing and pitched a complete game. deGrom allowed one run on four hits. He gave up four walks and had six strikeouts. degrom was helped out by the Mets infield defense, which turned four double plays. This was the best he has looked all year and was in total control all night keeping the ball down and attacking the strike zone.

Offense:
SS Asdrubal Cabrera led the Mets offense with two solo homers. RF Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. 3B Jose Reyes added a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Injury News:
LF Yoenis Cespedes left the game in the top of the sixth with a sore left heel.

Mets vs. Braves Game 61 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 2-1 today for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 28-33. RHP Seth Lugo made his first start of the year after being out since last September. Lugo was terrific and allowed one run on six hits in seven innings with 90 pitches. He gave up two walks and had six strikeouts. He picked up his first win of the season. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 11th save of the season.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by 3B Wilmer Flores. CF Juan Lagares drove in the other run of the game in the top of the sixth after he reached first base on an infield hit.

These moves were made to make room for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and RHP Seth Lugo on the roster. Rivera has hit.255 with two homers and 13 RBI's for the Mets this year. Mets vs. Braves Game 60 Recap (Game 2 of Doubleheader)

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 8-1 today to sweep today's doubleheader and improved their record to 27-33. LHP Steven Matz made his season debut  today and was outstanding. Matz allowed one run on five hits in 7 innings. He gave up one walk and had two strikeouts. Matz was in command of all his pitches and had pinpoint control. He was efficient and ended up with 98 pitches. RHP Neil Ramirez came in next after Matz came out and pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Tyler Pill pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.


The Mets offense was scoreless for the first four innings, but came alive in the top of the fifth. RF Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. Pinch hitter T.J. Rivera hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth. CF Juan Lagares added a two-run double in the top of the ninth.

RHP Fernando Salas came in for the bottom of the eighth and was taken out after allowing a homer to Brandon Phillip and an error by Jose Reyes.  LHP Josh Edgin got one out and then was taken out. RHP Addison Reed closed it out with a five-out save, his tenth on the year.

The Mets offense got two sacrifice flies by 2B T.J. Rivera in the top of the second inning and 1B Wilmer Flores in the top of the eighth inning. LF Yoenis Cespedes broke the game open in the top of the ninth inning after LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a grand slam, his seventh home run on the season.

Mets vs. Braves Game 58 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-2 tonight and dropped their record to 25-33. RHP Matt Harvey got the start and allowed no runs in five innings. He gave up four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. It was the first time Harvey didn't allow any runs in a start. RHP Paul Sewald allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double by Dansby Swanson.  LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning and came out for the bottom of the ninth. Salas gave up a double to Swanson and then was taken out. LHP Josh Edgin came in next and allowed walk-off single to pinch-hitter Rio Ruiz.

The Mets offense had two solo homers from CF Curtis Granderson and catcher Travis d'Aranaud.

Mets vs. Rangers Game 57 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers 4-3 tonight to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 25-32. 3B Jose Reyes drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning after reaching base on an error by 2B Roughned Odor. RF Jay Bruce led the offense with two home runs and three RBI's.

RHP Zack Wheeler the start and had arguably his best outing of the season. Wheeler allowed one run on six hits in seven innings. He gave three walks and had five strikeouts. Despite his excellent performance, Wheeler wound up with a no-decision. LHP Jerry Blevins came in the bottom of the eighth and allowed a two-run homer to Robinson Chironos, but still managed to pick up his third win. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and recorded his ninth save on the season.

Degrom allowed eight runs on 10 hits in four innings. This is the most amount of runs he has given up this year. He also allowed one and had two strikeouts. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and allowed two runs in two innings. RHP Neil Ramirez pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Josh Smoker pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

Mets vs. Pirates Game 55 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-1 tonight to lose two out of three games in the series and drop their record to 24-31. RHP Tyler Pill got the start and allowed five runs ( three earned) on eight hits in five hits. Pill was hurt by his poor defense behind him and in particular LF Michael Conforto who made two errors. He gave no walks and had four strikeouts. After Pill was taken out, RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. LHP Josh Edgin allowed a run in the top of the seventh inning. RHP Neil Ramirez allowed two runs in the top of the eighth. LHP Josh Smoker allowed three runs in the top on the ninth on a three-run homer by CF Andrew McCutchen.

The only run the Mets were able to score was on a double-play groundout by catcher Travis d'Arnaud in the bottom of the second inning.

Mets vs. Pirates Game 53 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-7 tonight for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 23-30. RHP Matt Harvey got the start and was unable to gain command on any of his pitches. Harvey allowed six runs on five hits in 5 innings. He gave up four walks and had five strikeouts. Harvey was unable to get out of the top of the sixth inning and allowed a solo home run to 1B Josh Bell to lead off the inning and then walked CF Andrew Mccutchen.  After Harvey was taken out, RHP Paul Sewald came in next and allowed a three-run homer to catcher Elias Dias. Sewald also allowed a RBI double to Josh Harrison and gave up a based loaded walk. RHP Neil Rameriez came in next and allowed a sacrifice fly to Andrew Mccutchen in the top of the seventh. Ramariez stayed in for the top of the eighth and allowed a solo homer to Harrison. LHP Josh Smoker pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets offense was led by 1B Lucas Duda who hit two homers and had 3 RBI's. Duda hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the second and a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth. LF Michael Conforto also hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. 2B Neil Walker added a RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch.

Mets vs. Brewers Game 52 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 to split their four game series and drop their record to 23-29. RHP Zack Wheeler had a strong start and was able to go into the seventh inning. Wheeler allowed two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He gave up one walk and had six strikeouts. Wheeler has come a long way after missing the last two seasons from Tommy John Surgery and has had six consecutive starts of allowing three runs or less. After Wheeler was taken out, LHP Jerry Blevins got the last two outs in the top of the seventh. RHP Fernando Salas pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth and had five strikeouts.

The Mets offense struggled all afternoon and managed four hits. 3B Wilmer Flores drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth.
