Manager Terry Collins said it would be best for Conforto to play every day in the minor leagues and get his confidence back. This is the second time Conforto has been sent down this year. Since being recalled on June 18th, he has only been hitting .200 in 19 games. Hopefully Conforto will figure it out in Triple A. He's such a talented hitter and is still young, so it will only be a matter of time before he is back in the big leagues.

Mets vs. Diamondbacks Game 114 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-0 today to drop their record to 57-57. This is the first time the Mets have had a .500 record since April 20th. RHP Noah Syndergarrd took the loss  to fall to 9-7 after he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in only five innings. He gave up one walk and had six strikeouts. He was unable to go deeper into the game due to a high pitch count. This has been a problem for Syndergarrd all season long. Hopefully he improves on this in the last two months of the season. After Syndergarrd was taken out, LHP Jon Niese came in and allowed 6 runs in the top of the sixth inning. He gave up 3 hits and 3 walks and one home run. He had two strikeouts. This was the far the worst appearance Niese had had since being traded back to the Mets. Bad outings will happen and it can only up from here for him.

The offense looked lifeless and managed just 5 hits. They have been struggling all season long. After the game, manager Terry Collins went on a rant in his post game press conference and called out his players and threatened to call up players from Triple-A. It's clear that Collins's frustration over the team's poor point has reached a breaking point. Hopefully this type of outburst from the manager will help inspire and motivate the Mets and help them get back on a winning streak.

LHP Jerry Blevins gave up a run in the twelfth inning  and took on a solo homer by Oscar Hernandez, the first of his career. Prior to Blevins coming in, closer Jeurys Familia pitched 2 scoreless innings. RHP Erik Goedell pitched a scoreless ninth inning. RHP Addison Reed gave up a run in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Bartolo Colon allowed 1 run in seven innings and one walk. He had eight strikeouts. He picked up a no-decision.

The offense struggled all night and managed just 3 singles by Ty Kelly, Jay Bruce and Neil Walker until the bottom of the ninth inning. Kelly Johnson hit a pinch-hit 2 run homer. Neil Walker followed with a single, but the Mets were unable to score. In the bottom of the tenth inning, 3B T.J. Rivera led off with his first major hit, but he was left stranded at second base. The Mets went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eleventh and twelfth, which has become a recurring theme this year. This was another crushing loss in a year that has turned out to be a major dissapointment.

Mets Sent Down Brandon Nimmo and Call up T.J. Rivera

The New York Mets have demoted outfielder Brandon Nimmo again to Triple-A Las Vegas and calling up infielder T.J. Rivera as a corresponding roster move. Nimmo was hitting only .237 in 64 at-bats in the big leagues. Rivera has had a great season in Triple-A and was just named Player of the Week for the Pacific Coast League. This was his second player of the week award and was also named Player of the Month in May. In his first full season in Triple-A, Rivera led the PCL with a .347 batting average, was third in RBI's with 80, and fourth in hits with 128. In six minor leagues, Rivera has hit at every level with a lifetime average of .323, an on-base percentage of .370 and a slugging percentage of .423 in over 600 games. Rivera will give the Mets a righty bat, which is something they desperately need. He will provide some versatility after playing first base, second base, third base and shortstop in the minors. He also recently started playing left field. Hopefully Rivera can provide the offense with some pop in the lineup. He's hit well in the minors for years and it's great that he is finally get his shot to see what he can do.

Mets Acquire Jon Niese from Pirates for Antonio Bastardo

The New York Mets traded  LHP Antonio Bastardo today to the Pittsburgh Pirates and brought back LHP Jon Niese. The Mets are also including case considerations in the deal. Bastardo will be going back to the Pirates after playing there last year. Niese spent the first 8 years of his career with the Mets. He had a career record of 69-67 with a 4.00 ERA in 205 games and 195 starts. Last year for the Pirates, Bastardo had a 2.98 ERA in 66 games. He had a 4.74 for the Mets this year. Hopefully this trade works out well for both teams and Niese and Bastardo can improve their seasons.

Mets Acquire Jay Bruce for Dilson Herrera and Max Wotell

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds today in exchange for infielder Dilson Herrera and lhp minor-leaguer Max Wotell. Bruce was hitting .265 for the Reds this year with 22 doubles, six triples, 25 home runs and 80 RBI's and a .559 slugging percentage in 97 games. His 80 RBI's led the National League and his 25 homers is fourth in the majors. He is one of three players to have at least 22 doubles, 25 homers and 80 RBI's this year along with Edwin Encarnacion and David Ortiz. Bruce is hitting .360 with runners in scoring position.

Bruce is a three-time all star as well as a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. Last season, he was one of nine major leaguers with at least 35 doubles, 26 homers and 87 RBI's. He finished the 2015 season the ninth-most extra base hits in the National League and also recorded 11 outfield assists, which was third-most in the National League.

Since Bruce came up in 2008, he has hit 233 career homers, fifth-most in the Major Leagues by a lefty hitter and  his 718 RBI's are sixth-most by a lefty hitter.

For his career, he has hit .249 with 238 doubles, 27 triples, 233 home runs and 718 RBI's.

This was a great move by the Mets. Bruce will really help improve their offense and help serve as a powerful middle of the order bat and help protect Yoenis Cespedes. He will make a difference with runners in scoring position. He will also serve as a great replacement in the batting order for Cespedes if he decides to opt out in the offseason.
