The offense were held scoreless for the three innings against RHP Glenn Otto, but came alive in the bottom of the fourth.
SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and two batters later DH Jeff McNeil walked.
LF Mark Canha followed with a RBI single and after 2B Luis Guillorme grounded out, 3B Eduardo Escobar came up and finally delivered after a lengthy slump with a three-run homer. It was a much needed homer for Escobar considering how much he has been struggling at the plate and hopefully he can build off this and start to hit like he was expected to.
LHP David Peterson cruised through the first two innings, but in the top of the third, he gave up a solo homer to 2B Marcus Semien.
Peterson was able to settle down after that in the third and had a scoreless top of the fourth.
He gave up a solo homer to 1B Nathaniel Lowe in the top of the fifth and ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after he gave up a lead-off single to Semien and then Semien advanced to second on a fielder's choice.
Peterson made a poor throw on a pick-off attempt which allowed Semien to advance to third and then gave up a RBI ground-out to RF Adolis Garcia and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was six innings, five hits, three runs, no walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts.
Peterson had stellar command of all his pitches once again especially with his slider and fastball.
He picked up his sixth win.
RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his 17th save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday June 2nd at home against the Rangers at 4:10 p.m.

RHP Taijuan Walker cruised through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off walk to LF Yordan Alvarez and then a single to 3B Alex Bregman.
Walker was able to get out of the jam after he came back to strike out RF Kyle Tucker and then got 1B Yuli Gurriel to ground out into a double play to end the inning.
Walker had easy innings in the top of the fifth and sixth, but ran into trouble once again in the top of the seventh after he walked Tucker and gave up a single to 2B Aledmys Diaz, but then retired catcher Jason Castro on a soft liner to 2B Jeff McNeil to end the inning.
Walker retired CF Jake Myers for the first out in the top of the eighth and was then taken out.
His final line was 7.1 innings, four hits, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.72.
RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and hit 2B Jose Altuve and gave up a single to SS Jeremy Pena, but came back to strike out Alvarez and Bregman to end the inning.
RHP Drew Smith followed in the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to Tucker and then retired the next two hitters, but was not able to get out of the inning after he gave up a two-run homer t Castro who came into this game hitting .095 with one RBI and two extra base hits with no homers.
The offense struggled all day against future Hall of Famer superstar RHP Justin Verlander and managed two hits all game.
They wasted a lead-off double by CF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the first and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three runners on base.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, July 1st at home against the Texas Rangers at 7:10 p.m.

RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to another tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off walk to 2B Jose Altuve and two batters later a single to DH Yordan Alvarez.
Carrasco then gave up a single to 3B Alex Bregman and a three-run homer to RF Kyle Tucker.
Carrasco did not give any more runs in the inning and had scoreless innings in the top of the second and third but ran into more trouble in the top of the fourth.
He gave up a lead-off walk to Tucker and three batters later a RBI single to CF Jake Myers.
Carrasco gave up a one-out single with one out in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.
His final line was 4.1 innings, six hits, six runs, three walks and four strikeouts.
LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and gave up a three-run homer to Alvarez, his second of the night.
Later in the inning, Shreve gave up a two-run homer to 1B Yuli Gurriel and was taken out.
RHP Trevor Williams came in next and threw 2.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Adonis Medina threw two scoreless innings in the top of eighth and ninth.
The offense did not do much for the first eight innings and wasted two lead-off doubles by RF Starling Marte in the bottom of the first and fourth.
In the bottom of the ninth, catcher Tomas Nido led off with a walk and DH J.D. Davis followed with a single.
Three batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme singled to load the bases and then catcher James McCann followed with a walk to bring in a run.
Outfielder Ender Inciarte then grounded out to end the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday June 29th at home against the Astros at 1:10 p.m.
