Mets Get Blown Out By Braves 20-2

Mets LHP Thomas Szapucki (Photo Credits to Brett Davis-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 20-2 tonight in Atlanta and dropped their record to 41-35. It was the most runs that the Mets have ever given up to the Braves and also the third-worst margin of loss in franchise history. LHP David Peterson had a difficult outing allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits in three innings. He gave up one walk and two strikeouts. Peterson left the game in the bottom of the fourth with right-side tightness. RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and also struggled allowing five runs on five hits with a walk. Reid-Foley recorded only out in the inning. LHP Thomas Szapucki appeared next in his ML debut in a difficult spot with men on base and had a tough first outing allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings with three walks and four strikeouts. CF Albert Almora Jr had to come in and pitch in the bottom of the eighth with the game long out of reach and gave up a three-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies. The lone highlight of the game came in the top of the first after CF Kevin Pillar led off with a double on the first pitch he saw against Braves starter LHP Max Fried and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 4-3 After Four Run Rally In Seventh

The offense struggled for the first six innings agaisnt RHP Charlie Morton, but finally came alive in the top of the seventh. LF Dom Smith led off with a single and then CF Kevin Pillar followed with a walk. Catcher James McCann came up and got into a 1-2 hole after he swung at the first two pitches out of the strike zone, but he managed to get a hanging curveball that he manaaged to hit into left centerfield on a three-run homer which tied the game that went 417 feet. The next hitter 3B Luis Guillorme struck out, but then pitch-hitter Jose Peraza hit a ground-rule double with one out after 2B Jeff McNeil struck out, SS Francisco Lindor delivered with a RBI single. RHP Tylor Megill had a dominating bottom of the first inning striking out the side, RF Ronald Acuna Jr, 1B Freddie Freeman and 2B Ozzie Albies on three pitches. Megill had a scoreless bottom of the second inning with a strikeout and worked around a walk to CF Guillermo Heredia. He gave up another walk to Acuna in the bottom of the third on a close pitch, but came back to strike out Freeman and retired Albies on a pop-out to end the inning. Megill had another scoreless in the bottom of the fourth with two strikeouts of SS Dansby Swanson and 3B Austin Riley and after a single to Heredia, he got LF Abraham Almonte to ground-out to first to end the inning. MeGill got two quick outs in the bottom of the fifth, but then gave up singles to Acuna Jr. and Freeman and then gave up a three-run homer to Albies on a first-pitch hanging change-up and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Trevor May had a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo had a scorless bottom of the eighth and worked around a single by Heredia. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 17th save. Szapucki is the Mets 10th ranked prospect and a fifth round draft pick had had a difficult season with a 4.41 ERA in 8 starts this season. He has pitched in 47 games at the minor league level due to a variety of injuries including Tommy John surgery. RHP Jered Eickoff has been desiginated for assignment as corresponding roster move. He went 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts.

Mets Lost to Nationals 8-4 4 Due to Nationals Power Surge

< Nats LF Kyle Schwarber (Photo Credits to AP) The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-4 in Washington, DC from a COVID make-up game from a postponement on April 3 and dropped their record to 40-34. RHP Jerad Eickhoff got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after gave up back-to-back homers to lead-off hitter LF Kyle Schwarber and the following hitter SS Trea Turner. Eichkoff then gave up a double to RF Juan Soto, but didn't allow any more runs in the inning. Eichkoff gave up another solo homer to CF Gerardo Parra in the bottom of the second, but settled down after with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth. He gave up another solo homer to Schwarber in the bottom of the fifth, his second of the game and he stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after inning. His final line was 6 innings, 8 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and 4 home runs. RHP Sean-Reid Foley came in next in the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Miguel Castro followed in the bottom of the eighth and had a difficult outing after he walked 3B Starlin Castro and was then hurt by his defense after 2B Travis Blakenhorn made a throwing error which allowed Parra to advance to second and Castro to third. Migeul Castro then gave up a three-run homer to 1B Ryan Zimmermann which broke the game open. The offense was held scorless for the first six innings by Nationals starter RHP Pablo Espino and RHP Sam Clay, but broke through in the top of the seventh against reliver RHP Wander Suero. Pinch-hitter Jose Peraza led-off with a hit-by pitch after 3B Luis Guilliorme reached on an infield hit and error earlier in the inning. 2B Jeff McNeil then hit a RBI single which scored Guillorme. In the top of the eighth, LF Dom Smith singled and then 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. RF Billy McKinney followed with a solo homer. Marcus Stroman Placed On Bereavement List

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (Photo Credits to Brad Penner-USA Today Sports) New York Mets RHP Marcus Stroman was placed on the bereavement list ahead of tonight's game at the Washington Nationals following the death of his grandmother. RHP Sean Reid-Foley was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to take his roster spot. Stroman has to miss at least three games once he is on the bereavement list and can return to the team as soon as Thursday. There is no word right now when Stroman will return.
