Mets Lose to Rays 10-8 After Quintana Gets Shelled

The New York Mets lost to the Tampa Bays 10-8 tonight at Tropicana Field and dropped their record back to .500 at 16-16.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, however it started to unravel in the bottom of the second.

Quintana allowed a RBI ground-out to CF Jonny DeLuca and then a RBI double to 3B Curtis Mead and a RBI single to 1B Yandy Diaz.

It all came apart for Quintana in the bottom of the third after he gave up a RBI single to former Met 2B Amed Rosario, a sacrifice fly to catcher Alex Jackson and then a two-run double by DeLuca.

Quintana gave up a RBI single to Diaz later in the inning and was then taken out.

His final line was 2.2 innings, 10 hits, eight runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next and allowed one run in 2 1/3 innings.

LHP Danny Young threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seven and eighth innings.

The Met offense got on the scoreboard in the top of the second after 3B Brett Baty hit a three-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, RF Starling Marte drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and later in the inning, SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run double, his third in the last two games.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double to break out of a 0-19 slump.

In the top of the ninth, Baty hit his second homer of the game and then LF Brandon Nimmo doubled with two outs, but Marte struck out to end the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, May 4 at the Rays at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Beat Cubs 7-6 in 11 innings on Walk-Off Double from Francisco Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 7-6 this afternoon at Citi Field in 11 innings to improve their record to 16-15.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth.

3B Brett Baty and then CF Harrison Bader singled.

Later in the inning, LF Brandon Nimmo drove in a run with a RBI single and RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, pinch-hitter Francisco Lindor came off the bench to deliver a two-run double and later in the inning, Nimmo drove in tying run with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much for the next four innings, but in the bottom of the 11th, Lindor came once through once again with a walk-off two-run double.

RHP Adam Houser had another rough outing allowing four runs on four hits in five innings.

Houser gave up four walks with two strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed in the top of the sixth and gave up a RBI double to former Met CF Pete Crow-Armstrong.

LHP Jake Diekmann came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Reed Garrett thew a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the ninth and tenth.

LHP Danny Young came on in the top of the 11th and gave up a RBI double to 2B Nick Madrigal but was able to keep the deficit to one run after Marte threw out Madrigal trying to score which ended the inning.

Young picked up his first win of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, May 3 at the Tampa Bay Rays at 6:50 p.m.

Mets Call Up Top Pitching Prospect Christian Scott

The New York Mets are calling up RHP Christian Scott and will likely make his ML debut on Saturday at the Tampa Bay Rays.

Scott has 36 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse with a 3.20 ERA and 0.71 WHIP.

He has given up 12 hits and 6 walks with a 0.71 WHIP.

Scott will hopefully provide some stability to the Mets rotation as well as they need another starting pitcher due to the fact that they are the middle of playing 26 games in 27 days.

Mets Lose To Cubs 1-0 After Game Ends On Controversial Call

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 1-0 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record back to .500 at 15-15.

RHP Jose Butto started out well with four scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth.

Butto gave up a double to DH Matt Mervis who then advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Butto then gave up a sacrifice fly to former Met prospect CF Pete Crow-Armstrong.

He had a scoreless top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, four hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Jorge Lopez came in next and got the first two outs in the top of the seventh.

LHP Jake Diekmann had to come in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Sean-Reid Foley threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense did no do much for the first eight innings, but had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.

2B Jeff McNeil came up with runners on first and third and one out and hit a fly-ball to left field, but 1B Pete Alonso was thrown out at home trying to score.

The play was reviewed to see if Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya was blocking the plate, but the call was upheld. 

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza came out to argue but to no avail.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, May 2 at home against the Cubs at 1:10 p.m.
