The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after RF Kevin Pillar hit a solo homer. Pillar struck again in the bottom of the fifth for another solo homer, his second of the night. The bats went quiet for the next couple of innings until the bottom of the eighth after LF Jeff McNeil led off the inning with a single and then Pillar followed with a hit-by pitch. Pinch-hitter Michael Conforto then came up and delivered a three-run homer for the first pinch-hit homer of his career. RHP Marcus Stroman worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the first, but ran into trouble in the top of the second after he gave up a lead-off walk and later in the inning a RBI double to CF Lane Thomas and a RBI single to SS Alcides Escobar. Stroman settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings and was then taken out. His final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. RHP Trevor May came on in the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off hit and a single with two outs, but then gave up a wild pitch with RF Juan Soto up at the plate which allowed catcher Riley Adams to score. May came back to strike out Soto to end the inning. May picked up his sixth win. RHP Seth Lugo followed and gave up a lead-off single, but was then able to get a ground-ball which resulted in a 3-6-3 double play. Lugo struck out 3B Carter Kieboom to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz then came in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning and picked up his 26th save. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.
