RHP Marcus Stroman had a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to SS Didi Gregarious in the bottom of the second. Stroman settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but gave up a triple to 1B Brad Miller and then later a RBI single to starting pitcher RHP Kyle Gibson. Stroman was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the eighth and got into trouble after he gave up a single to 2B Jean Segura and then a two-run homer to RF Bryce Harper. The bats didn't do much for the first couple of innings, but in the top of the third CF Brandon Nimmo and 1B Pete Alonso walked and then LF Dom Smith came through later in the inning with an RBI single. The offense was quiet after that until the top of the ninth after 3B Jonathan Villar hit a solo homer. They left eight runners on base and were 1-8 with runners in scoring position. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m.
