The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and two batters later, SS Javier Baez hit a RBI double. 3B J.D. Davis followed with a RBI single. LF Brandon Drury then grounded out, but SS Jonathan Villar delivered with a RBI single. The bats went quiet after that for the new few innings until the top of the seventh after Baez doubled with two outs and then Davis followed with a two-run homer. In the top of the ninth, Nimmo singled with one out and then 1B Pete Alonsos and Baez were hit by pitches which loaded the bases. Davis then walked to bring in a run and pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI ground-out. RHP Marcus Stroman started out with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a two-run single to CF Cody Bellinger. Stroman was able to work out of that inning without allowing any more runs to maintain the lead and then settled down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth and was taken out. His final line was 6 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He picked up his ninth win. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Trevor May then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth. The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home on Tuesday, August 24th against the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
