Mets Get Embarrassed By Dodgers 14-4 And Allow Five Homers

Mets RHP Yennsy Diaz (Photo Credits to Brad Penner-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 14-4 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 58-58. RHP Carlos Carrsco got into immediate trouble in the top of the first inning and gave up a two-run homer to 3B Justin Turner and a solo homer to catcher Will Smith. Carrasco's struggles continued in the top of the second inning after he gave up a two-run double to 2B Trea Turner and a solo homer to 1B Max Muncy and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 2 innings, 6 hits, 6 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. RHP Jake Reed came in next for his first appearance as a Met since last pitching for the Dodgers on July 18 with three scoreless innings allowing two hits with three strikeouts. RHP Yennsy Diaz followed and gave up a sacrifice fly to Dodgers starter RHP Max Scherizer and a two-run homer to Muncy. RHP Geoff Hartlieb came on in the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning, but in the top of the eighth, he gave up an infield single to Smith which brought home a run and a RBI double to LF Chris Taylor. Infieder Brandon Drury came in to pitch in the top of the ninth and gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Matt Beatty. The offense continued to struggle with men on base and left 10 runners on base. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI ground-out in the bottom of the third. RF Michael Conforto hit a RBI ground-out in the bottom of the fourth. CF Brandon Nimmo scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh. 3B J.D. Davis hit a sacrifice fly later in the seventh. The Mets next game is tomorrow night on the West Coast at the San Francisco Giants at 9:45 p.m.
