The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 this afternoon in Los Angeles for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 60-63.
LHP Rich Hill got off to a difficult start in the bottom of the first after he gave up solo homers to lead-off hitter 2B Trea Turner and 1B Albert Pujois.
Hill settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, but gave up a solo homer to RF Chris Taylor in the bottom of the fourth.
Hill had a scoreless bottom of the fifth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 5 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts.
RHP Miguel Castro followed in the bottom of the sixth and ran into trouble after he gave up a bloop single and than back-to-back walks to load the bases.
Castro then walked Taylor to bring in a run and was taken out with the based loaded and no out.
RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and worked out of the jam without allowing any runs.
LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
The offense wasted an opportunity in the top of the first inning after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double, but was not able to advance off second.
The bats didn't do much in the next few innings until the top of the fifth when Nimmo homered with two outs. 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a double and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a hit-by pitch. RF Michael Conforto then walked to load the bases, but 3B J.D. Davis struck out to end the inning like he did last night. Davis has struck out in all six of his at-bats with the based loaded this year.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, McNeil walked with two outs and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.
In the tpp of the ninth, pinch-hitter Kevin Pillar led off with a hit-by pitch, but then Nimmo flew out and McNeil and Alonso struck out to end the game.
They were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.
The Mets next game is at the Dodgers tomorrow afternoon at 4:10 p.m.
