Mets vs. Nationals Game 60 Recap

Mets RHP Seth Lugo (Credits to Newsday.com) The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 15-5 this afternoon in the final game of their season and finished up with a record of 26-34. RHP Seth Lugo got the start and gave up a lead-off double to LF Andrew Stephenson and two batters later walked RF Juan Soto and gave up a sacrifice fly to DH Yadiel Hernandez. In the bottom of the second, Lugo gave up a single to 1B Brock Holt and a walk to 3B Josh Harrison. He then hit CF Victor Robles to load the bases and later in the inning gave up a two-run double to Stephenson. Lugo then gave up singles to SS Trea Turner and Soto which brought in another run and was then taken out. His finsl line was 1.1 innings, 5 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. LHP Chasen Shrieve came in next and walked Hernandez to load the bases and gave up a sacrifice fly to catcher Yan Gomes but the run was charged to Lugo. RHP Brad Brach followed in the bottom of the third and walked Harrison, 2B Luis Garcia and CF Michael A. Taylor to load the bases and was then taken out. LHP Steven Matz followed and walked Stevenson to bring in a run and then gave up a grand slam to Turner. Matz later gave up a homer to Gomes later in the inning. He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. RHP Dellin Betances came on in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off double to Gomez, a double to Holt and walked Harrison to load the bases with one out. RHP Jared Hughes had to come in and walked Turner to bring in a run, but the run was charged to Betances and didn't give any more runs in the inning. RHP Jeurys Famailia followed and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings. The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. CF Guillermo Heredia led off the top of the second inning with a solo homer.In the top of the fourth inning, 2B Luis Guilorme led off with a double and Heredia drove him in with a RBI single. 1B Pete Alonso hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot in the top of the seventh inning. This game marks the end of the Mets 2020 season, but it's the beginning of an exciting offseason with prospective owner Steve Cohen hopefully getting approved soon and a new front office headed by Sandy Alderson to help the team around. Mets vs. Nationals Game 59 Recap (Game 2 of doubleheader)

Mets RHP Rick Porcello and First Baseman Pete Alonso (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals in the second game of their doubleheader and dropped their record to 26-33. RHP Rick Porcello started out well with two scoreless innings, but it all unraveled for him in the bottom of the third. Porcelllo gave up a solo homer to SS Trea Turner and a RBI single to DH Yadiel Hernandez and two-out RBI singles to catcher Kurt Suzuki, 3B Josh Harrison and CF Michael Taylor and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 3 innings, 8 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. RHP Erasmo Ramirez followed with a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning. RHP Dellin Betances came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning. RHP Jared Hughes threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth inning after 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. In the top of the sixth inning, they loaded the based with one out and 3B Todd Frazier hit a RBI single, but 3B Luis Guillorme and SS Amed Rosario struck out to end the inning. In the top of the seventh inning, RF Brandon Nimmo grounded out into a force out and LF Jeff McNeil lined out to end the game with the tying runs on base. The Mets final game is tomorrow afternoon at the Nationals at 3:05 p.m.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 58 Recap (Game 1 of doubleheader)

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 4-3 this afternoon in the first game of their doubleheader and dropped their record 26-32 and were officially eliminated from playoff contention. RHP Jacob deGrom started out well with two scoreless innings including a fastball at 102.2 mph and got two quick outs in the bottom of the third, but gave up a solo homer to LF Andrew Stevenson in the bottom of the third. Degrom gave up singles to 1B Brock Holt and catcher Yan Gomes in the bottom of the fourthand then later in the inning threw a wild pitch which allowed Holt to score from third. He gave up an inside-the park homer to Stevenson which caused LF Dom Smith to crash into the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning. DeGrom walked RF Juan Soto and struck out DH Yadiel Hernandea and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 3 runs, 2 walks and 10 strikeouts. RHP Miguel Castro followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off walk to Holt and a single to Gomes. Castro was later taken out in the inning and RHP Edwin Diaz came in and gave up a RBI single to 3B Josh Harrison. The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third inning after 3B Luis Guillorme led off with a walk and catcher Wilson Ramos followed with a two-run homer. SS Amed Rosario hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning.
