Mets Lost to Phillies 4-2 After Offense Continues To Struggle

Phillies RF Bryce Harper (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 tonight in Phidelphia for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 56-53. RHP Marcus Stroman had a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to SS Didi Gregarious in the bottom of the second. Stroman settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but gave up a triple to 1B Brad Miller and then later a RBI single to starting pitcher RHP Kyle Gibson. Stroman was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the eighth and got into trouble after he gave up a single to 2B Jean Segura and then a two-run homer to RF Bryce Harper. The bats didn't do much for the first couple of innings, but in the top of the third CF Brandon Nimmo and 1B Pete Alonso walked and then LF Dom Smith came through later in the inning with an RBI single. The offense was quiet after that until the top of the ninth after 3B Jonathan Villar hit a solo homer. They left eight runners on base and were 1-8 with runners in scoring position. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m.

Mets Lose to Marlins 4-2 And Leave 15 Men On Base

Mets SS Javy Baez (Photo Credits to Getty Images) The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 4-2 this afternoon in Miami to lose three out of three four games in the series and dropped their record to 56-52. LHP Rich Hill started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up a single to SS Miguel Rojas hit a single to right-center field and then CF Albert Almora Jr and RF Michael Conforto were unable to decide who gets the ball and Conforto kicked it which allowed Rojas to go to second. Hill allowed Rojas to steal third and then gave up a sacrifice fly to 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. Hill settled down after that and had scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings and was then taken out. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. RHP Miguel Castro followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Drew Smith then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up a walk on a close pitch on one out with lead to three runs. The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after that loaded the bases with no out, but 3B J.D. Davis and SS Javier Baez struck out and RF Michael Conforto flew out to end the inning. In the following inning, CF Albert Almora singled with one out and then Hill grounded into a double play to end the inning. The bats continued to struggle with men on base after Hill struck out with runners on the corner and two outs in the top of the fourth and then SS Javier Baez struck out with runners on first and second and two outs in the top of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, CF Albert Almora doubled and CF Brandon Nimmo walked and then 2B Jonathan Villar drove in a run with a RBI single. The offense didn't do much in the next two innings, but came alive in the top of the ninth after 1B Pete Alonso led off and reached on an error. Davis walked with one out and then Baez struck out for the fifth time for the second out. Conforto then reached on an infield hit and pinch-hitter Brandon Drury delivered a RBI single. Almora then came up and grounded out to end the game. They left 15 runners on base and were 4-13 with runners in scoring position. The Mets next game is tomororw night at the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:00 p.m.

Mets Beat Marlins 5-3 Behind A Stellar Performance By Javier Baez

Mets SS Javier Baez (Photo Credits to Jim Rassol-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 5-3 tonight in Miami to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 56-51. The offense got on the board early in the top of the second inning after LF Dom Smith doubled and then SS Javier Baez singled and RF Michael Conforto walked to load the bases. 3B Jonathan Villar drove in the first run of the game with an RBI groundout. Catcher Tomas Nido followed by grounding into a fielder's choice, but Baez was able to make a remarkable play after he avoided the tag at home plate which helped him score the second run of the game. RHP Carlos Carrasco followed by bunting the ball back to Marlins starter RHP Zack Thompson and then Thompson threw wildly to second trying to complete the double play which allowed another run to score. The bats didn't much after that until the top of the eighth when Baez led off the inning wit a solo homer to the opposite field. RF Michael Conforto and pinch-hitter J.D. Davis later in the inning. CF Brandon Nimmo walked to load the bases and cathcer Alex Jackson had a passed ball on ball four to Nimmo which allowed Conforto to score. RHP Carlos Carrasco allowd two runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. Carrasco started out well, but gave up three consecutive hits in the fifth which led to a run and was taken out. LHP Aaron Loup came in and gave up a RBI ground-out to SS Jazz Chisholm Jr, but didn't allow any more runs in the inning and struck out one out of the two batters he faced. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a solo homer to 1B Jesus Aguilar, but was able to keep the game tied. RHP Miguel Castro then came in and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning and picked up his third win. RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Trevor May closed with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning with two strikeouts and picked up his fourth save. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Marlins at 12:10 p.m.
