The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-1 tonight and improved their record to 78-73 and cut the lead down to 4 games in the National League Wild Card with 11 games left. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until the top of the sixth after 3B Todd Frazier singled and SS Amed Rosario followed with a two-run homer his 13th on the year and 101th hit on road. CF Brandon Nimmo latrer homered in the inning. 1B Pete Alonso also hit a solo homer in the sixth for his 48th homer of the year. Alonso drove in another run with an RBI single in the top of the eighth. 3B Todd Frazier added a RBI single in the top of the ninth.
RHP Marcus Stroman had the best start of his Met career throwing seven scoreless innings allowing four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Stroman pitched inside effectively and kept the Rockies lefty hitters off balanced with his change-up, cutter and curve-ball. He picked up his third win. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. LHP Luis Avilan gave up a solo homer to RF Charlie Blackmon in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to get the last three outs.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Rockies at 3:10 p.m.
