Pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme bunted Frazier over to second base and 1B Pete Alonso came through with an RBI single. Two batters later, catcher Wilson Ramos hit an RBI single as well to make it a 4-2 game and add a much needed insurance run. In the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, CF Juan Lagares singled, pinch-hitter J.D. Davis singled to move Lagares to third and McNeil was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Alonso. Alonso managed to draw a walk, which brought in the winning run.

LHP Luis Avilan came in next with two outs in the top of the sixth and walked pinch-hitter Phil Gosseline to load the bases. RHP Brad Brach had to come in in a key spot and retired SS Jean Segura on a fly-out to end the inning. Brach stayed in for the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning and lowered his ERA to 1.97. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning, but blew his second consecutive save and seventh overall after he allowed a two-run homer to catcher J.T. Realmuto. Diaz was able to pick up his second win.
