Mets vs. Diamondbacks Game 143 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 tonight to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 73-70. The offense got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer., his 46th on the season. The bats went quiet for the next two innings until the bottom of the fourth after catcher Wilson Ramos led off with a double, and after 2B Robinson Cano popped out and L.F. J.D. Davis grounded out, CF Brandon Nimmo was walked intentionally with two outs. SS Amed Rosario followed and came through with an RBI single. Alonso hit another solo homer in the bottom of the fifth for his 47th on year and fourth multi-homer game this year.

RHP Jacob degrom started out well with four scoreless innings, but gave up a solo homer to former Met and fan favorite 2B Wilmer Flores in the top of the fifth inning.  deGrom settled down after that and cruised through the top of the sixth and seventh innings. His final line was 7 innings. one run, three hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts. He was dominant tonight from the beginning and had all of his pitches working including a sharp change-up and slider. deGrom picked up his his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 2.70. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a 1--2-3 top of the eighth inning and two strikeouts and closed it out with another 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning and two more strikeouts. Lugo picked up his fifth save on the year and lowered his ERA to 2.79.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m.
