The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-0 this afternoon to complete a 4 game sweep and improved their record to 76-70. 3B Todd Frazier continued his torrid stretch with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the third, SS Amed Rosario stuck out to lead off the inning and 1B Pete Alonso reached on a throwing error by SS Nick Ahmed. 2B Robinson Cano grounded out for the second out and LF J.D. Davis kept the inning alive with a single. RF Michael Conforto followed with a single and Frazier walked to load the bases. CF Juan Lagares came up to the plate and broke the game open with his first career grand slam. Cano led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo homer. Four batters later after a fly out, walk and strikeout, Lagares came up again and hit another homer this time to the opposite field for his second of the game and first multi-homer game of his career. Catcher Tomas Nido followed with a homer on the very next pitch. Conforto added a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh for his 30th homer of the year and sixth homer overall for the team.
RHP Marcus Stroman had his best outing of the year in a Met uniform and took a shut-out in the seventh inning. Stroman walked RF Jarrod Dyson and catcher Alex Avila and an RBI double to pinch-hitter Ildemaro Vargas and was then taken out with runners on second and third and one out. His final line was 6.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. He picked up his second win as a Met. LHP Daniel Zamora came in next and walked RF Abraham Almonte to load the bases. Zamora struck out LF Josh Rojas for the second out and was relived for RHP Chris Mazza. Mazza was able an inning-ending ground-out and was able to finish the game and close it out with scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Dodgers at 7:10 p.m.
