Mets vs. Marlins Game 157 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-4 tonight in 11 innings to improve their record to 82-75, which ensures that they have a winning season and were able to avoid elimination for one night in the National League wild card standings. The offense was held scoreless for the first six innings until RF Michael Conforto hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. Conforto delivered again in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-run homer to tie the game. CF Brandon Nimmo drew a walk with the based loaded in the bottom of the eleventh inning to drive in the winning run.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had another difficult outing allowing four runs on 10 hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in 5 innings. RHP Chris Mazza followed with 1.2 scoreless innings. LHP Luis Avilan got the last out in the top of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the tenth inning. RHP Paul Sewald threw a scoreless top of the eleventh inning and picked up the first win of his career.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
