Mets Lose To Marlins 5-4 After Offense Is Unable To Come Though In Ninth

Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (Photo Credits to Jason Vinlove-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 5-4 in Miami tonight for their third consecutive loss and eight in last 10 games and dropped their record to 55-51. RHP Tijuan Walker had another difficult outing after he gave up a solo homer to catcher Alex Jackson in the bottom of the second and another solo homer to 2B Isan Diaz in the bottom of the third. Walker's struggles continued in the bottom of the third after he gave up a two-run single to RF Bryan De La Cruz. Walker was abe to settle down after that and retired nine of the last 10 batters he face and was taken out with two outs in the sixth. His final line was 5.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 2 walksa and 4 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning and stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and gave up hits to CF Lewis Brinson and LF Jorge Alfaro to bring in a much needed insurance run. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth when 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch and two batters later, LF Dom Smith drove in McNeil with a sacrifice fly. After a scoreless top of the fifth inning, 1B Pete Alonso led off the top of the sixth with a walk and McNeil followed with a hit-by-pitch. SS Javier Baez lined out to center which moved Alonso to third, but then Smith drove in his second run of the game with another sacrifice fly. 3B J.D. Davis followd with a RBI double to the opposite field and narrowly missed a game-tying two-run homer. The bats didn't much do for the next innings, but in the top of the ninth inning, Smith led off with a single and Davis grounded into a fielder's choice which moved Smith to second. RF Michael Conforto then grounded out to third for the second out, but catcher James McCann kept the game alive with a RBI double to the opposite field. Pinch-hitter Brandon Drury was not able to come through and grounded out to end the game. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Marlins 6-3 After Offense Continues To Struggle With Men On Base

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (Photo Credits to Mark Brown-Getty Images) The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 6-3 in Miami tonight for their second cosecutive loss and fourth in last five games and dropped their record to 55-50. RHP Tylor Megill had the worst start of his young career and got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first afer he gave up back-to-back singles to 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr and SS Miguel Rojas and then 1B Jesus Aguilar reached first on a catcher's interference to load the bases. Megill then gave up a grand slam to LF Lewis Brinson. Megill had a scoreless bottom of the second inning, but gave up another run in the bottom of the third inning after Brinson singled and 3B Isan Diaz hit a RBI double. Megill settled down after that with 1-2-3 innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was taken out after the fifth. His final line was 5 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Jeurys Familia then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Trevor May came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off triple to Rojas and then intentionally walked Aguilar and then gave up an infield hit to Brinson who reached first safely after SS Javier Baez made a throwing error which brought home a run. The offense had a scoreless top of the first inning, but in the top of the second, Baez walked and advanced to third on a single by 3B J.D. Davis. Baez came around to score on a wild pitch by Marlins starter LHP Jesus Luzardo. Later in the inning, RF Brandon Drury continued his torrid hitting with a RBI double to score Davis. 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in the top of the third, his 24th on the season. The offense didn't do much else after that and had a chance to score in the top of the eighth, but Drury grounded out to short with the based loaded and two out. They were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

Mets SS Javier Baez (Photo Credits to Robert Sabo-NY Post) The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 at Citi Field this afternoon to lose out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 55-49. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up a solo homer to 1B Max Schrock. Stroman had a scoreless top of the fifth inning, but it all unravaled for him in the top of the sixth after he gave up a double to LF Jesse Winker, a triple to the following hitter SS Kyle Farmer and then a sacrifice fly to catcher Tyler Stephenson. Stroman gave up a single to Schrock and then two batters later walked CF Tyler Naquin and was taken out. RHP Miguel Castro followed and walked RF Aristides Aquino to load the bases and then walked Reds starter RHP Vladimir Gutirrez which brought in a run, but didn't allow any more runs in the inning. RHP Yennsy Diaz then threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Geoff Hartlieb came on in the top of the ninth and walked three batters and gave up a RBI single to Scrock and a two-run double to Naquin. The offense didn't do much all day and had three hits. 2B Jeff McNeil drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.
