The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 8-2 tonight at Yankee Stadium to lose two out of three games in the first round of the Subway Series and dropped their record to 29-18.

LHP David Peterson was let down by his defense in the bottom of the first after 3B Mark Vientos made an error to allow 1B Paul Goldschmidt to reach base and then two batters later, gave up a double to RF Aaron Judge.

Peterson then gave up a two-run double to LF Cody Bellinger.

Peterson was able to settle down after the first and did not allow any more runs and was taken out after the sixth.

His final line was six innings, three hits, two runs (1 earned), four walks and four strikeouts.

Peterson lowered his ERA from 3.05 to 2.86.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed in the bottom of the seventh and was able to work his way out of a based loaded jam.

RHP Ryne Stanek came on in the bottom of the eighth and got into immediate trouble after he walked the lead-off hitter DH Jason Dominiguez,

Two batters later, Stanek gave up a double to catcher Austin Wells and was then let down by the Met defense as well after 1B Pete Alonso made a costly error while trying to throw out Dominguez at home.

Stanek then gave up a RBI single to Goldschmidt and was then taken out.

LHP Genesis Cabrera followed and walked CF Trent Grisham to load the bases and after striking out RF Aaron Judge, gave up a grand slam to Bellinger which put the game out of reach.

The Met offense got on the board in the top of the second after 3B Mark Vientos led off with an infield hit and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

Three batters later, CF Jeff McNeil came through with a RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, McNeil led off with a walk and then 2B Luisangel Acuna followed with a sacrifice bunt.

SS Francisco Lindor then grounded out to second which allowed McNeil to advance to third and then McNeil scored on a wild pitch.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and struggled with men on base going 1-7 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, May 20 at the Boston Red Sox at 6:45 p.m.
