The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.
In the bottom of the second, the offense outburst continued after 3B Brett Baty led off with a solo homer and two batters later, DH Jeff McNeil homered.
In the bottom of the third, LF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out and then catcher Francisco Alvarez and Baty reached on infield hits to load the bases.
2B Luisangel Acuna then grounded out to SS Dwansby Swanson, but Swanson botched a routine double play and made a poor throw over first base, which allowed Nimmo and Alvarez to score.
In the bottom of the fourth, RF Juan Soto hit a solo homer for his eighth homer of the season and third this week.
The offense did not do much for the next three innings until the bottom of the eighth after Lindor reached on an infield single with two outs and then stole second and Soto followed with a RBI single for his second RBI of the game.
RHP Clay Holmes had a terrific start outside of a solo homer by RF Kyle Tucker in the top of the fourth.
Holmes allowed one run on three hits in six innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
He had outstanding command of his sinker which helped him pick up a lot of groundouts.
Holmes picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 2.74.
RHP Ryne Stanek followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next in the top of the eighth and had two strikeouts, but also gave up two walks and was then taken out.
RHP Reed Garrett came on and retired DH Seiya Suzuki on a fly-out to end the inning.
RHP Jose Butto followed in the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off homer to 1B Michael Bush, but then recovered to strike out the next three hitters to close out the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, May 10 at the Cubs at 7:15 p.m.
