LHP David Peterson started out well with three scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after 3B Mark Vientos made an error and after a walk and passed ball, gave up a RBI ground-out to 1B Josh Naylor.
Later in the inning, Peterson gave up a RBI ground-out to SS Geraldo Perdamo.
Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the fifth, but his trouble continued in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a two-run homer to LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr and was taken out after the inning.
Peterson's final line was six innings, five hits, four runs, four walks and eight strikeouts.
RHP Jose Butto came on in the bottom of the seventh and gave up an unearned run after CF Tyrone Taylor made an error.
Butto stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and had a scoreless inning.
The Met offense did not do much outside of the top of the third after SS Francisco Alvarez singled with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor and RF Juan Soto walked to load the bases.
1B Pete Alonso came up next and also walked to bring in the run.
The offense did not do much after that and was stymied by RHP Zac Gallen who allowed one run on two hits.
They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, May 7 at the Diamondbacks at 3:40 p.m.
