The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after RF Juan Soto led off with a walk and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.
The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the seventh after catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with an infield hit and two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor doubled.
SS Francisco Lindor followed with a three-run homer.
RHP Griffin Canning got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to RF Corbin Carroll, but settled down after that.
Canning worked around trouble in the first and second and then had a 1-2-3 third.
He gave up a single in the bottom of the fourth and then back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fifth, but did not allow any runs.
Canning gave up a lead-off walk to DH Pavin Smith to lead off the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.
His final line was 5.0 innings, six hits, one run, one walk and eight strikeouts.
Canning is the first Met pitcher since Zack Wheeler in 2018 to win five consecutive starts and lowered his ERA to 2.50.
RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.
RHP Dedniel Nunez came on in the bottom of the eighth in his season debut and had a difficult time walking all three batters he faced before being taken out.
RHP Reed Garrett followed and gave up three runs, but was able to keep the lead.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning to pick up his eighth save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 6 at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.
