After a scoreless bottom of the first, DH Jared Young was hit by a pitch with two outs in the bottom of the second and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a single.
3B Brett Baty then came through with a RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Torrens led off with a single and three batters later, Baty walked.
SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk to load the bases and then LF Starling Marte reached on an infield hit to bring home the tying run.
RF Juan Soto came up and delivered a much needed clutch hit with a two-run double.
In the bottom of the eighth, Torrens led off with another single and then DH Mark Vientos followed with a hit by pitch,
Two batters later, Baty capped off his stellar night at the plate with a RBI double for his third hit and second RBI.
LHP David Peterson had a scoreless top of the first and then gave up two runs in the top of the second on a RBI single by 3B Kiki Hernandez and a RBI groudd-out by catcher Dalton Rushing.
Peterson was able to settle down after that and had a stellar outing allowing two runs on five hits in 7.2 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
He was able to escape out of several jobs by inducing four double play groundouts which helped him give some much needed length to a tired bullpen after a 13 inning game last night.
Peterson had sharp command of his slider and change-up.
He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.79.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the eighth with two outs and struck out SS Mookie Betts to end the inning and then started out the top of the ninth striking out RF Tesoscar Hernandez and 1B Freddie Freeman and then retired LF Andy Pages on a ground-out to close out the game.
Diaz picked up his 11th save on the season.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Sunday, May 25 at home against the Dodgers on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball at 7:10 p.m.
