Mets Lose to Cubs 6-5 Wasting Opportunities With Men on Base

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-5 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 25-15.

RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off single to CF Pete Crow-Armstrong who then stole second and reached third on a throwing error by catcher Francisco Alvarez.

Megill then walked RF Kyle Tucker and gave up a RBI single to LF Seiya Suzuki.

Later in the inning, Megill gave up an infield hit to SS Dansby Swanson which brought home a run.

Megill had a scoreless top of the second and then gave up a RBI single to 1B Michael Busch in the top of the third.

Megill's struggles continued in the top of the fourth after he gave up a solo homer to Swanson and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fifth.

His final line was 4.2 innings, seven hits, four runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

LHP Genesis Cabrera got the last two outs in the top of the seventh.

RHP Max Kranick had a rough top of the eighth after he gave up a two-run single to catcher Miguel Amaya.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso led off with a single, two batters later, DH Mark Vientos singled and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty came through with a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Vientos singled with one out and then Baty came through again this time with a two-run homer for his fourth and fifth RBI of the game.

The Met offense struggled with men on base all night wasting numerous scoring opportunities to go 1-10 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, May 11 at home against the Cubs at 12:05 p.m.
