The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against last year's NL Rookie of the Year RHP Paul Skenes until the bottom of the fourth after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and two batters later, CF Jeff McNeil drove in Nimmo with a RBI double.
The offense did not do much for the next three innings until the bottom of the seventh after pinch-hitter Tyrone Taylor led off by a hit by pitch and stole second and then 2B Luisangel Acuna reached on an infield single.
Two batters later, RF Juan Soto hit a RBI ground-out to score Taylor and then 1B Pete Alonso reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.
In the bottom of the ninth, SS Francisco Lindoe reached on an error by SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa with one out and then Soto followed with a single.
Alonso came up next and drove in winning run with walk-off sacrifice fly.
LHP David Peterson had a scoreless top of the second and then gave up a solo homer to Kiner-Falefa in the top of the second.
Peterson settled down after that and one point retiring the next 10 hitters he faced and went into the top of the seventh and was taken out.
RHP Jose Butto came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out to RF Bryan Reynolds.
RHP Dedniel Nunez followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off single and then was let down by his defense after Lindor botched a routine double play, but was able to settle down after that. Brazoban got an inning ending double play to keep the game tied and he picked up his second win of the season.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 13 at home against the Pirates at 7:10 p.m.
