Mets Get Blown Out By Braves 20-2

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 20-2 tonight in Atlanta and dropped their record to 41-35.
It was the most runs that the Mets have ever given up to the Braves and also the third-worst margin of loss in franchise history.
LHP David Peterson had a difficult outing allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits in three innings. He gave up one walk and two strikeouts.
Peterson left the game in the bottom of the fourth with right-side tightness.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and also struggled allowing five runs on five hits with a walk. Reid-Foley recorded only out in the inning.
LHP Thomas Szapucki appeared next in his ML debut in a difficult spot with men on base and had a tough first outing allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
CF Albert Almora Jr had to come in and pitch in the bottom of the eighth with the game long out of reach and gave up a three-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies.
The lone highlight of the game came in the top of the first after CF Kevin Pillar led off with a double on the first pitch he saw against Braves starter LHP Max Fried and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 4-3 After Four Run Rally In Seventh

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 in Atlanta to snap their two-game losing strek and improved their record to 41-34.
The offense struggled for the first six innings agaisnt RHP Charlie Morton, but finally came alive in the top of the seventh.
LF Dom Smith led off with a single and then CF Kevin Pillar followed with a walk.
Catcher James McCann came up and got into a 1-2 hole after he swung at the first two pitches out of the strike zone, but he managed to get a hanging curveball that he manaaged to hit into left centerfield on a three-run homer which tied the game that went 417 feet.
The next hitter 3B Luis Guillorme struck out, but then pitch-hitter Jose Peraza hit a ground-rule double with one out after 2B Jeff McNeil struck out, SS Francisco Lindor delivered with a RBI single.
RHP Tylor Megill had a dominating bottom of the first inning striking out the side, RF Ronald Acuna Jr, 1B Freddie Freeman and 2B Ozzie Albies on three pitches.
Megill had a scoreless bottom of the second inning with a strikeout and worked around a walk to CF Guillermo Heredia.
He gave up another walk to Acuna in the bottom of the third on a close pitch, but came back to strike out Freeman and retired Albies on a pop-out to end the inning.
Megill had another scoreless in the bottom of the fourth with two strikeouts of SS Dansby Swanson and 3B Austin Riley and after a single to Heredia, he got LF Abraham Almonte to ground-out to first to end the inning.
MeGill got two quick outs in the bottom of the fifth, but then gave up singles to Acuna Jr. and Freeman and then gave up a three-run homer to Albies on a first-pitch hanging change-up and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.
RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning.
RHP Trevor May had a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning.
RHP Seth Lugo had a scorless bottom of the eighth and worked around a single by Heredia.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 17th save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.

New York Mets LHP Thomas Szapucki has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse prior to tonigh's game at the Atlanta Braves.
Szapucki is the Mets 10th ranked prospect and a fifth round draft pick had had a difficult season with a 4.41 ERA in 8 starts this season.
He has pitched in 47 games at the minor league level due to a variety of injuries including Tommy John surgery.
RHP Jered Eickoff has been desiginated for assignment as corresponding roster move.
He went 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts.

Mets Lost to Nationals 8-4 4 Due to Nationals Power Surge

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-4 in Washington, DC from a COVID make-up game from a postponement on April 3 and dropped their record to 40-34.
RHP Jerad Eickhoff got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after gave up back-to-back homers to lead-off hitter LF Kyle Schwarber and the following hitter SS Trea Turner.
Eichkoff then gave up a double to RF Juan Soto, but didn't allow any more runs in the inning.
Eichkoff gave up another solo homer to CF Gerardo Parra in the bottom of the second, but settled down after with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth.
He gave up another solo homer to Schwarber in the bottom of the fifth, his second of the game and he stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after inning.
His final line was 6 innings, 8 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and 4 home runs.
RHP Sean-Reid Foley came in next in the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.
RHP Miguel Castro followed in the bottom of the eighth and had a difficult outing after he walked 3B Starlin Castro and was then hurt by his defense after 2B Travis Blakenhorn made a throwing error which allowed Parra to advance to second and Castro to third.
Migeul Castro then gave up a three-run homer to 1B Ryan Zimmermann which broke the game open.
The offense was held scorless for the first six innings by Nationals starter RHP Pablo Espino and RHP Sam Clay, but broke through in the top of the seventh against reliver RHP Wander Suero.
Pinch-hitter Jose Peraza led-off with a hit-by pitch after 3B Luis Guilliorme reached on an infield hit and error earlier in the inning.
2B Jeff McNeil then hit a RBI single which scored Guillorme.
In the top of the eighth, LF Dom Smith singled and then 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. RF Billy McKinney followed with a solo homer.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.
Marcus Stroman Placed On Bereavement List

New York Mets RHP Marcus Stroman was placed on the bereavement list ahead of tonight's game at the Washington Nationals following the death of his grandmother.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to take his roster spot.
Stroman has to miss at least three games once he is on the bereavement list and can return to the team as soon as Thursday.
There is no word right now when Stroman will return.

Mets Lose To Phillies 4- 2 After Offense Struggles Against Zack Wheeler

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to split their four-game series and dropped their record to 40-33.
RHP Marcus Stroman had a scoreless top of the first inning helped out by two stellar defensive plays by RF Michael Conforto and CF Kevin Pillar, but ran into trouble in the top of the second.
Stroman gave up a walk and single with one out and then Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler hit a sacrifice bunt that was dropped by 2B Jeff McNeil which loaded the bases.
Stroman gave up three more runs in the top of the third after LF Andrew McCutchen led off a single and then walked 1B Rhys Hoskins.
Stroman then retired RF Travis Jankowski after he hit a succesful sacrifice bunt, but then gave up a RBI single to 3B Alec Bohm.
Stroman then gave up a RBI double to Nick Maton and then allowed another run after SS Ronald Torreyes reached base after 3B Luis Guillorme made a throwing error and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 3 innings, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and 3 stikeouts.
RHP Corey Oswalt followed with four scorless innings and four strikeouts.
RHP Drew Smith threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
In the bottom of the first inning, SS Francisco Lindor hit a ground-rule double and 1B Pete Alonso singled, but RF Michael Conforto lined out to Bohm and catcher James McCann grounded out to end the inning.
The bats went quiet for the next few innings against Wheeler, but threatened in the botom of the fifth and LF Billy McKinney led off with a single and CF Kevin Pillar walked but Guillorme lined out and then Oswalt hit a sacirifice bunt to move the runners over for the second out.
2B Jeff McNeil then lined out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter Dom Smith lined out with two outs to end the inning against Wheeeler and it was the last batter Wheeler faced all afternoon.
In the bottom of the eighth, Lindor doubled with one out against reliever LHP Jose Alvarado and Alonso followed with a RBI single, but then Conforto and McCann struck out to end the inning.
Pillar hit a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth against RHP Archie Bradley, but then Guillorme was retired and pinch-hitter Patrick Mazieka struck out to end the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at Washington Nationals in a make-up game at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Phillies 4-3 On Another Walk-Off Win In Bottom Of Ninth

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 this afternoon at Citi Field and improved their record to 40-32.
RHP Jacob deGrom had a scoreless top of the first inning, but allowed a run after LF Andrew McCutchen singled, stole second and then gave up a RBI single to 2B Nick Maton.
deGrom settled down for the new few innings until the top of the sixth when he loaded the bases and gave up a sacrifice fly to McCutchen and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 6 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and five strikeouts.
deGrom wasn't at his best with his command and location and it was his "worst" start of the year, but he found a way to battle through and keep his team in the game.
LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scorleess top of the seventh inning.
RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and struggled with his command with a walk, stolen base, wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to Maton.
In the bottom of the second, LF Dom Smith and catcher James McCann and then 2B Jose Peraza came through with a RBI double.
The bats went quiet for the next few innings until the bottom of the seventh when CF Kevin Pillar hit a solo homer with one out to tie the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, pinch-hitter Travis Blakenhorn led off and reached first on an error by 1B Rhys Hoskins, and then pinch-hitter Billy McKinney walked and Pillar hit an infield single to load the bases.
3B Luis Guillorme came up and drew a walk to bring in the tying run and after SS Francisco Lindor struck out, RF Michael Conforto hit a walk-off sacrifice fly.

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 tonight in 8 innings in the second game of their doubleheader at Citi Field and dropped their record to 39-32.
LHP David Peterson had another stellar outing and started out well with five scoreless innings with command of his slider and fastball, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth.
Peterson gave up a solo homer to RF Bryce Harper in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 4.95.
RHP Trevor May came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning.
RHP Sean-Reid Foley followed in the top of the eighth and gave up an RBI ground-out to CF Odubel Herrera.
The offense was held scoreles for the first six innings against Phillies starter LHP Matt Moore until the bottom of the seventh when pinch-hitter Billy McKinney led off with a single and then 3B Luis Guillorme grounded into a fielder's choice and McKinney reached second an error on a fielding error by 3B Alec Bohm.

The New York beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 this afternoon at Citi Field in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 39-31.
RHP Tijuan Walker cruised through the first four innings and retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the fifth, but then walked 2B Nick Maton with two outs and then gave up a RBI double to Phillies starter RHP Aaron Nola. Walker was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 5 innings, three hits, one run, one walk and five strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.38.
RHP Miguel Castro came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth inning, but came back out for the seventh inning and ran into trouble.
Castro walked CF Travis Jankowski to lead-off the inning and then two batters later, he walked Maton and was then taken out.
RHP Drew Smith had to come in and got the last two outs to end the inning.
RHP Seth Lugo came on in the top of the eighth with the automatic runner on second to start the inning and struck out 1B Rhys Hoskins and then walked RF Bryce Harper intentionally, but came back to strike out catcher J.T. Realmuto and CF Andrew McCutchen to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, CF Kevin Pillar reached on an error to lead-off the inning, but was left stranded.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, 3B Luis Guillorme reached on an error by Phillies reliever LHP Jose Alvarado and then with two outs, SS Francisco Lindor came through with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth, LF Dom Smith delivered with a walk-off RBI single.

Mets Beat Braves 7-3 Behind Strong Offense And a Stellar Outing From Tylor Megill
The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 7-3 tonight at Citi Field to split their four-game series and improved their record to 38-31.
The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning against Braves starter RHP Kyle Wright after SS Francisco Lindor walked with one out and then RF Michael Conforto doubled to move Lindor to third.
Lindor then scored on a wild pitch and then 1B Pete Alonso walked.
LF Dom Smith grounded into a fielder's choice later in the inning which scored Conforto.
In the bottom of the second inning, 3B Luis Guillorme doubled, 2B Jeff McNeil singled and then Lindor delivered the key blow with a three-run homer.
The bats went quier for the next few innings until the bottom of the seventh after Conforto and Alonso singled and two batters later, catcher James McCann hit a RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth, Guillorme walked and then McNeil and Lindor singled which helped bring in another run.
RHP Tylor Megill made his MLB debut and did a fine job allowing two runs on three hits in 4 1/3 scoreless innings. He gave up two walks and had four strikeouts. Megill was composed and threw hit in the mid 90's and also mixed in a sharp change-up.
RHP Miguel Castro came on in the top of the fifth and worked out of a based loaded jam for a scoreless inning.
RHP Corey Oswalt followd with one run on four hits in 2.1 innings. He had two walks and four strikeouts. He picked up his first win.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a five-out save for his 16th save of the year.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, June 25th at home against the Phillies for a day-night doubleheader beginning at 4:10 p.m.

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-0 tonight at Citi Field for their second cosecutive loss and dropped their record to 37-31.
RHP Marcus Stroman had a scoreless top of the first inning, but in the top of the second inning, he grabbed his left side after a pitch to 3B Austin Riley and pulled up lame.
He tried to throw some warm-up pitches, but was wincing and then came out of the game.
RHP Yennsy Diaz had to come in and worked out of a based loaded jam with no outs after he came back to strike out CF Ender Inciarte, RHP Charlie Morton and RF Ronald Acuna Jr to end the inning.
Diaz came back out for the top of third inning, but had a difficult inning this time and gave up a three-run homer to SS Dansby Swanson.
RHP Drew Smith followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth.
LHP Aaron Loup came in next and did a stellar job with three scoreless innings in the top of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

The offense only had two hits and they one hit through the first 8.2 innings.
It was the fourth time they have been shut out in the last 8 games.

Marcus Stroman Leaves Start With Hip Soreness

New York Mets RHP Marcus Stroman left tonight's start after one inning against the Atlanta Braves with left hip soreness.
Stroman threw 17 pitches in the top of the first and threw a pitch to 3B Austin Riley in the top of the second and then grabbed his side in discomfort.
He then two warmup pitches and left the game.

Joey Lucchesi To Undergo Tommy John Surgery

New York Mets LHP Joey Lucchesi will undergo season-ending Tommy John Surgery on Thursday after an MRI revealed he had a significant UCL tear.
Lucchesi was placed on the 10-Day IL on Saturday with elbow inflammation.
He was pitching well in his last seven starts with a 2.28 ERA and 29 strikeouts.
His overall record was 1-4 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

New York Mets catcher Patrick Mazieka has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse after Tomas Nido was hit by a pitch on the wrist in yesterday's game.
Infielder Brandon Drury was sent down to Triple-A as corrresponing roster move.
Jonathan Villar Leaves Game With Calf Tightness
New York Mets infielder Jonthan Villar left Monday's night game in the second game of a doubeleheader with right calf tightness.
Villar has been dealing with hamstring tightnessin his right leg earlier this month.
He has a done job this season leading the Mets in stolen bases with eight and doubles with 10 with an OPS of .743.

RHP Miguel Castro came in next and gave up a solo homer to RF Ronald Acuna Jr in the top of the fifth inning.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley followed with a scorless top of the sixth inning.
RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning.
The offense had only five hits and several costly base running errors.
In the bottom of the second, 1B Pete Alonso was thrown out trying to advance to third base on a single by LF Dom Smith.
In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Jose Peraza was thrown out going to third base on a ground-ball by Francisco Lindor.
Lindor was then picked up thrown out on a caught stealing at second.

Jeurys Familia Goes on IL
New York Mets RHP Jeurys Familia was placed on the IL following Game 1 of the doubleheader with a hip impingement.
RHP Yennsy Diaz was recalled to take Familia's spot.
Familia has a 3.63 ERA in 22.1 innings.
There's currently no timetable for how long Familia wil be out.

Mets Beat Braves 4-2 in first game of doubleheader behind Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 this afternoon in first game of the doubleheader at Citi Field and improved their record to 37-29.
The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a walk, and thenb SS Francisco Lindor then sacrified him to second.
LF Dominic Smith flew out to right which moved Villar to third and Villar scored on a wild pitch by Braves starter RHP Kyler Muller.
The bats went quiet for the next few innings until the bottom of the fifth after catcher Tomas Nido was hit by a pitch with one out, pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil followed with a single, Villar hit an infield single to load the bases and then two batters later, Smith came up and broke the game open with a three-run double.
RHP Jacob deGrom made his return off the injured list and had an outstanding start with five scoreless innings allowing one hit and two walks with six strikeouts.
deGrom picked up his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 0.50. He has now thrown 30 2/3 consecutive scorless innings. He tried Bob Gibson's record from 1968 of 12 straight starts with one run or less.
RHP Seth Lugo followed in the top of the sixth and had a difficult outing after he walked 1B Freddie Freeman with one out and then gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the seventh and closed it out with a 1--2-3 top of the seventh and picked up his 15th save.
The Mets next game is tonight against the Braves.

Mets Lose To Nationals 5-2 After Taijuan Walker Struggles With Command

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 5-2 this afternoon in Washington D.C to lose three out of four games in the series and dropped their record to 36-29.
RHP Tijuan Walker got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first inning after LF Kyle Schwarber hit a lead-off walker.
Walker threw a scoreless inning in the bottom of the second inning, but in the bottom of the third, he gave up a single to SS Trea Turner who then stole second and then gave up an RBI single to 1B Josh Bell.
Walker had a scoreless inning in the bottom of the fourth, but gave up a solo homer to Scwarber in the bottom of the fifth, his second of the day.
Walker had a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning, but gave up a one-out double to pinch-hitter Gerardo Parra in the bottom of the seventh with one out and was taken out.
RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and gave up a two-run homer to Schwarber, his third of the game, fifth in two games and 18th ths year.
Walker's final line was 6.1 innings, 10 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeots.
Familia then walked Turner and a single to RF Juan Soto, but came back to strike out 1B Josh Bell and catcher Yan Gomes to end the inning.
RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
RF Kevin Pillar led off the top of the second with a solo homer.
The bats went quiet for the next few innings agaisnt Nationals starter LHP Patrick Corbin until the top of the seventh when 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer.
They managed only four hits all afternoon.

The New York Mets are calling up right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff from Triple-A Syracuse due to all of the games and doubleheaders coming up.
Outfielder Mason Williams was desiginated for assignment as corresponding roster move.
Eickhoff has started in eight games in Triple-A with a 5.32 ERA in 44 innings.
Williams played in 17 games for the Mets with a .631 OPS.

Mets Lost to Nationals 6-2 And Struggle Against Jon Lester

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 6-2 tonight in the second game of their doubleheader and dropped their record to 36-28.
RHP Robert Gsellman got the start as an "opener" and got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up a lead-off homer to LF Kyle Schwarber.
Gsellman was able to settle down after that and didn't allow any more runs in the first.
He stayed in for the bottom of the second and threw a scoreless inning.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next in the bottom of the third and retired the two batters he faced and then gave up a solo homer to SS Trea Turner.
Reid-Foley didn't allow any more runs in the inning and stayed in for the bottom of the fourth and got into trouble afer he gave up a lead-off walk to catcher Yan Gomes and then a single to the following hitter 2B Luis Garcia.
Reid-Foley then gave up a RBI ground-rule double to 3B Starlin Castro and then struck out CF Victor Robles and Nationals starter LHP Jon Lester.
Reid-Foley was almost out of the inning, but then gave up a three-run homer to Schwarber which broke the game open and make the score 6-0.
RHP Yennsy Diaz who was just called up as the 27th man for the doubleheader had to come in and retired Turner to end the inning.
Diaz stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning.
The offense didn't much all game against Nationals LHP Jon Lester until the top of the seventh inning after pinch-hitter Tomas Nido singled and 2B Jose Pereza followed with a two-run homer.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Nationals at 1:05 pm.

New York Mets LHP Joey Lucchesi was placed on the 10-Day Injured List with left elbow inflammation.
CF Albert Almora Jr. was activated from the 10-Day Injured List as corresponding roster move.
Lucchesi had been pitching well prior to going on the IL after he had 5 1/3 scoreless innings in his start last night and lowered his ERA to 5.46
Almora has struggled so far offensively with an average of .048.

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-1 this afternoon in Washington D.C. in the first game of their doubleheader and improved their record to 36-27.
SS Francisco Lindor lead the way offesively with two homers and five RBI's.
Lindor had two two-run homers and an RBI single.
It was his first two-homer game as a Met and the second time in last 62 games he had three hits in a single game.
LHP David Peterson had another outstanding start and went into the bottom of the fifth before running out of steam.
Peterson gave up a double to SS Trea Turner with two hits after an 11 pitch at-bat and was then taken out with 94 pitches.
LHP Aaron Loup followed and gave up a RBI single to RF Juan Soto and the run was charged to Peterson.
Peterson's final line was 4.2 innings, 2 hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts.
He lowered his ERA to 5.31.
Loup was able to get the final out in the bottom of the fifth.
RHP Miguel Castro came in next and got the first two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
RHP Seth Lugo had to come in and record the last out in the bottom of the sixth.
RHP Trevor May closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

Mets Lose to Nationals 1-0 and waste a stellar outing from Joey Lucchesi

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 1-0 tonight in Washington D.Cn, for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 35-27.
LHP Joey Luchessi worked his way out of a based loaded jam with one out in the bottom of the third inning after he got SS Trea Turner to ground into a double play to end the inning.
Luchessi was able to get out of the bottom of the fourth after he was induce another double this time by catcher Yan Gomes.
Lucchesi had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth with a one-out single to Turner and then walked RF Juan Soto and was then taken out.
Lucchesi had another strong start and his final line was 5.1 scorless innings allowing four hits and two walks with four strikeots.
He has pitched much better in his last few starts and his ERA is down to 4.46
RHP Miguel Castro came in next and retired first baseman Ryan Zimmermann on a double play to end the inning.
Castro stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.
LHP Aaron Loup came in next and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then gave up a single to LF Kyle Schwarber and was then taken out.
RHP Seth Lugo came on and struck out Turner to end the inning.
RHP Edwin Diaz came in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off walk to RF Juan Soto and a single to Zimmermann to right field which advanced Soto to third.
Diaz then gave up a walk-off RBI single to Gomes to score Soto.
The offense was non-existent all night and managed only two hits and left four runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Nationals at 1:05 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader.

Mets Lost to Cubs 2-0 After Offense Gets Shut Down by Kyle Hendricks

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 2-0 tonight at Citi Field to drop their record to 35=26, but still managed to take three out of four games in the series.
RHP Marcus Stroman gave up a single to 3B Kris Bryant and then a two-run homer to SS Javier Baez in the top of the first inning, but settled down after that.
Stroman gave up only two more hits after that and settled into a nice groove.
He had sharp command and kept the ball down and used his sinker and slider.
His final line was 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts.
RHP Jeurys Familia came in next in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.
RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The offense didn't much and struggled all night against Cubs starter RHP Kyle Hendricks.
They were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.
The bats were kept off balanced by Hendricks off speed pitches including his change-up, curveball and cut fastball.
They had great chances to score after a lead-off double by 3B Jonathan Villar in the bottom of the first and walks by 1B Pete Alonso and LF Dom Smith to begin the bottom of the fourth, but then were not able capitalize in either inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, After Alonso and Smith's walk, catcher James McCann grouded into a double play and RF Billy McKinney grounded out to end the inning.
The offense didn't do anything after that and the Cubs pithers retired the last 17 hitters they faced.

Mets Beat Cubs 6-3 due to strong offense and solid pitching from Sean Reid-Foley

The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 6-3 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 35-25.
The offense got on the board first in the bottom of the second after RF Billy McKinney drew a lead-off walk and then CF Kevin Pillar followed with a RBI double.
2B Luis Guillorme flew out and then catcher Tomas Nido struck out, but then RHP Jacob deGrom helped out his own cause with a RBI single for his sixth RBI of the season.
LF Dom Smith hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, Guillorme drew a lead-off walk and then Nido singled and newly brought in reliever RHP Sean Reid-Foley walked to load the bases. Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor walked to bring in a run.
Smith hit a RBI ground-out later in the inning.
Pillar added a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.
RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start with thee scoreless innings retiring all nine batters he faced. deGrom struck out eight of the nine hitters he faced and lowered his ERA to 0.54, but had to come out after the top of the third with shoulder soreness.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley followed and gave up one run in two innings in relief on a solo homer by 1B Anthony Rizzo.
Reid-Foley picked up his second win.
LHP Aaron Loup threw a scoreless top of the sixth inning.
RHP Miguel Castro then threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning.
RHP Trevor May had his best outing in a while with a scoreless top of the eighth inning striking out the side.
RHP Drew Smith came on in the top of the ninth inning, but had a diffucult outing allowing a one-out walk and then gave up a two-run homer to RF Rafael Ortega.
Drew Smith gave up a based-runner with two outs and was taken out for closer RHP Edwin Diaz.
Diaz was able to come in and get the last out on a fly-out to CF Mason Williams and picked up his 14th save.
The Mets next game is tomororw night at home against the Cubs at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Cubs 3-2 due to another terrific outing from Taijuan Walker and clutch defense

The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 34-25.
The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against RHP Alec Mills, but woke up in the bottom of the third inning after SS Francisco Lindor walked with one out, two batters later LF Dom Smith doubled and then 1B Pete Alonso came up hit a two-run single to bring to score Lindor and Smith.
In the bottom of the sixth, 3B Jonathan Villar and Lindor singled and then Smith walked to load the bases. Alonso then came up and drove in his third run of the night with a RBI single.
RHP Tijuan Walker had another outstanding start allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings. He didn't give up any walks and had 12 strikeouts. 11 out of his 12 strikeouts came on his four-seam and two-seam fastballs. Six of his strikeouts came on two-seam fastballs inside to left handed hitters.
He was working the corners and both sides of the plate and attacked the zone.
The only runs Walker allowed were on a two-run homer by SS Javier Baez in the top of the fourth.
He picked up his sixth win and his ERA is now at 2.12, which is seventh in the National League.
RHP Seth Lugo followed and cruised in the top of the eighth with a 1-2-3 inning and two strikeouts on 10 pitches.
Lugo came back out for the top of the ninth and got 1B Anthony Rizzo to ground-out to lead off the inning, but then ran into some trouble after he gave up back-to-back singles to catcher Wilson Contreras and pinch-hitter Eric Sogard.
Lugo was helped out by his defense after Sogard singled into the right- center field gap and it was fielded by CF Kevin Pillar who fired a quick relay throw to 2B Luis Guillorme and then Guillorme threw a strike to catcher James McCann who tagged out pinch-runner Jake Marisnick for the second out.
RF Jason Heyward followed with a walk, but Lugo struck out 2B Sandy Alcantara to end the game and pick up his first save of the year and he ended up with a total of 37 pitches.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Cubs at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Recall Sean-Reid Foley And Demote Jacob Barnes

The New York Mets announced prior to tonight's game that reliever RHP Sean-Reid Foley was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. RHP Jacob Barnes was desiginated for assignment in a corresponding roster move.
Reid-Foley was outstanding before getting sent down with a 1.98 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 13 innings.
Barnes has had a difficult season with a 6.27 ERA and allowed six home runs in 18 innings.
Reid-Foley will help create more depth as another power arm to the Mets strong bullpen to go to late in games.

The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 33-25.
The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against Cubs starter RHP Jake Arrieta until the bottom of the fourth inning until LF Dom Smith singled with one out and then two batters later RHP Billy McKinney walked. Catcher James McCann followed with a RBI single and then the next hitter CF Kevin Pillar broke the game open with a two-run double.
In the bottom of the fifth, Smith hit a solo homer to deep center field to extend the lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Pillar and 2B Luis Guillorme walked and then pinch-hitter Brandon Drury came up and hit a RBI single which scored Guillorme.
LHP David Peterson had an outstanding start with six scoreless innings allowing one hit with two walks and three strikeouts. He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 5.60.
Peterson had sharp command of his slider and change-up. He was able to keep the ball down and looked much more confident and relaxed on the mound. He worked at a fast pace and kept the hitters off balanced.
RHP Trevor May followed in the top of the seventh and had a difficult outing allowing back-to-back homers to 1B Anthony Rizzo and 3B Patrick Wisdom with one out. May came back to strike out former Met CF Jake Marisnick, but then was taken out for LHP Aaron Loup.
Loup stuck out RF Jason Heyward to end the inning and stayed in for the top of the eighth.
Loup struck out SS Sergio Alcantara and got 2B Eric Sogard to fly out for the second out. He retired pitch-hitter Javier Baez on a ground-out to end the inning.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and had a domnating performance striking out the side on 13 pitches. Diaz struck out the heart of the order catcher Wilson Contreas, LF Kris Bryant and 1B Anthony Rizzo to close it out with a blazing fastball and sharp slider. He picked up his 13th save of the season.

Mets Lose to Padres 7-3 after Bullpen Blows Lead In Top Of The Seventh

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 7-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to lose their last game of the series and dropped their record to 32-25.
LHP Joey Lucchesi got off to a rocky start in the top of the first inning giving up a solo homer to LF Tommy Phan, but was helped out by defense by getting a double play to end the inning.
Lucchesi settled down after that by getting another double play in the top of the second, a 1-2-3 top of the third inning and two strikeouts in the top of the fourth.
He finished up strong by striking out the side in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.
His final line was five innings, four hits, one run, one walk and six strikeouts.
RHPP Jeurys Familia came in next in the top of the sixth and gave up back-to-back singles to Phan and SS Fernando Tatis Jr, but then came back to get 3B Manny Machado to ground into a double play and struck out RF Wil Myers to end the inning.
Familia stayed in for the top of the seventh and walked 1B Eric Hosmer to lead off the inning, gave up a single to pinch-hitter Jake Croneworth and after catcher Webster Rivas hit a sacrifice bunt to move Hosmer and Croneworth over to second and third, Familia struck out pinch-hitter Trent Grisham for the second out.
Familia was not able to get out of the inning and he walked pinch-hitter Jurickson Profar to load the bases and then he walked Phan which brought in the tying run and was then taken out with the based loaded and two outs.
RHP Jacob Barnes came on to try to keep the game tied, but was not able to do so after he gave up a gram slam to Tatis Jr and a solo homer to the following hitter Machado.
RHP Drew Smith followed in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning and also threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against Padres starter RHP Chris Paddack until the bottom of the fifth after CF Mason Willams singled and then 2B Jose Peraza followed with a two-run homer.
In the bottom of the eighth, 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch in the head but remained in the game.
Later in the inning, LF Dominic Smith beat out a double play grounder and advanced to second on a fielder's choice.
Catcher Tomas Nido then reached on an error which allowed Smith to score.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Chicago Cubs at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Padres 4-1 Due To Another Outstanding Start by Marcus Stroman

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 4-1 this afternoon at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 32-24.
The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Jonathan Villar led off getting hit by a pitch and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer against Padres starter RHP Joe Musgrove.
The bats went quiet for the next few innings until the bottom of the sixth after Lindor walked to lead off the inning with and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single to the opposite field which moved Lindor to third.
LF Dom Smith then grounded into a fielder's choice whcih brought home a run.
Villar added a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth.
RHP Marcus Stroman cruised through the first six innings with pinpoint command on his fastball, slider and change-up.
Stroman gave up his only run in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by SS Fernando Tatis Jr and after he got 1B Eric Hosmer to ground out, he walked RF Wil Myers and was taken out.
His final line was 6.1 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts.
He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 2.33.
Stroman was in control all afternoon with his pinpoint command on his fastball, change-up and slider. He mixed in all his pitches well and attacked both sides of the plate.
LHP Aaron Loup came in next and retired 2B Jake Cronenworth and catcher Victor Caratini to end the inning.
RHP Seth Lugo followed with a dominating top of the eighth striking out three batters and worked around a walk.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning and picked up his 12th save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Padres at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Padres 3-2 after another dominating performance from Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 31-24.
The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against Padres LHP former Cy Young Award Winner Blake Snell until the bottom of he fifth after CF Kevin Pillar led off with a double and RF Billy McKinney followd with a RBI double.
2B Jose Peraza walked and then Snell committed a balk which moved McKinney and Peraza to second and third.
RHP Jacob deGrom came up and broke the open with a two-run single.
deGrom was outstanding once again with a 1-2-3 top of the first inning and two strikeouts and another 1-2-3 top of the second inning and a strikeout.
He continued his dominance in the top of the third with two more strikeouts and struck out the side in the top of the fourth inning which helped increase his strikeout total to eight.
deGrom worked out a one-out single by RF Wil Myers and was helped out by his defense after catcher James McCann threw out Myers trying to steal second on a caught stealing and then retired CF Jurickson Profar to end the inning.
deGrom had a easy 1-2-3 top of the top sixth with two more strikeouts and was taken out after the inning with right flexor tightness.
His final line was 6 innings, one hits, no walks, no runs and 10 strikeouts.
He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 0.56.
RHP Miguel Castro came in next and had a difficult top of the seventh allowing a one-out double to SS Fernando Tatis Jr and then gave up a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Jake Croneworth.
Castro then walked 3B Manny Machado and was taken out. It was reported later than Castro left the game with a stiff neck.
RHP Seth Lugo came in and struck out Myers and got Profar to line out to end the inning.
LHP Aaron Loup followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to 2B Ha-Seong Kim, but came back to strike out catcher Victor Caratini and got pinch-hitter Jorge Mateo to ground out and was then taken out.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on and got LF Tommy Phan to fly out to end the inning.
Diaz stayed in for the top of the ninth and got two quick strikeouts of Tatis Jr and Croneworth and after he gave up a two-out single to Machado, Diaz was able to close it out after 1B Eric Hosmer popped out to end the game for his 11th save of the year.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Padres at 4:10 p.m.
Jacob deGrom Leaves Game With Right Flexor Tightness

New York Mets RHP Jacob deGrom left tonight's game with right flexor tightness after six innings.
deGrom spoke about the injury after the game and said that he has been dealt with flexor issues before including this week.
He said that no treatment is required between starts only an examination by a doctor.
deGrom sounded confident that he will able to make his next start and didn't think he would have to miss any time.
Mets Activate Luis Guillorme Off Injured List

New York Mets infielder Luis Guillorme has been activated from the injured list before tonight's game. Guillorme has been on the IL since April 30th with an oblique injury.
Outfielder Travis Blakenhorn has been sent down to Triple-A Syracuse as corresponding roster move.

Mets Slug The Orioles 14-1 with six homers and stellar pitching by Taijuan Walker

The New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 14=1 tonight in Baltimore and improved their record to 30-24.
The offense got on the board early in the top of the first inning after SS Francisco Lindor walked and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.
In the top of the third inning, 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a double and after Alonso singled with two outs, catcher James McCann and RF Billy McKinney hit RBI singles and then LF Kevin Pillar broke the game open with a three-run homer.
McKinney hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning.
Pillar and CF Mason Williams hit back-to-back homers in the top of the eighth, which was the first time Met hitters hit back-to-back homers this year.
In the top of the ninth, Villar doubled to lead off the inning and after SS Francisco Lindor grounded out, Alonso drove in Villar with a RBI double and after LF Dom Smith flew out, McCann walked and McKinney capped off his stellar night at the plate with a three-run homer.
RHP Taijuan Walker had another outstanding start allowing one run on five hits in seven innings. He gave up one walk and had nine strikeouts. He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 2.07.
RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning.
RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, June 11th back at home against the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Orioles 10-3 after David Peterson continues to struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 10-3 tonight in Baltimore and dropped their record to 29-24.
LHP David Peterson started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning after he gave up a lead-off single to catcher Pedro Severino and then a double to 3B Maikel Franco.
Peterson gave up a two-run double to the following hitter 2B Pat Valaika and two batters later a RBI double to CF Cedric Mullins and then finally finshed the inning with three runs.
Peterson gave up a one-out double to SS Freddy Galvis in the bottom of the third and then an infield hit to Severino and two batters later a RBI double to Valaika and was taken out.
His final line was 2.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.
RHP Robert Gsellmann had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the third inning.
Gsellman stayed in for the bottom of the fourth and gave up a run on an infield single by DH Trey Mancini.
Gsellman was still in the game in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a lead-off single to Galvis, walked Severino and then gave up a three-run homer to Franco which broke the game open.

Mets Beat Padres 6-2 to split four game series behind Marcus Stroman and timely hitting

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 this afternoon in San Diego for their second consecutive win to split their four game series and improved their record to 29-23.
The offesne was held scoreless for the two innings against Padres starter RHP Chris Paddick, but broke through in the top of the third inning after 2B Jose Peraza hit a ground-ball double, RHP Marcus Stroman followed with a sacrifice bunt and then RF Billy McKinney drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single.
LF Dom Smith hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning.
The bats went quiet for the next two innings unti the top of the seventh after Peraza hit a bunt single with two outs and then Stroman helped out his own cause with a RBI double.
In the following inning, 1B Pete Alonso reached base on a hit by a pitch and then two batters later, catcher James McCann broke the game open with a two-run homer.
Stroman cruised through his first four innings, but he ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a single to 1B Eric Hosmer, walked RF Wil Myers, and gave up a single to 3B Ha-Seong Kim to load the bases.
Stroman was then helped out by his defense after 3B Brandon Drury fielded catcher Webster Rivas grounder and then stepped on third and threw to first to complete the double play and get out of the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Stroman made a poor throw to first base on a routine grounder by SS Fernande Tatis and then Alonso missed the throw whcih allowd Tatis Jr to advanced to third.
Stroman then gave up a grounder to 1B Eric Hosmer which allowed the run to score.
Stroman gave up a ground-rule double to LF Tommy Pham with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and was then taken out.

RHP Trevor May came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up two hits and a run on a ground-out by Pham on a fielder's choice, but May was able to close out the game.

Mets Beat Padres 4-0 Behind a Strong Outing from Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 4-0 tonight in San Diego to snap a three-game losing streak and improved ther record to 28-23.
The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the top of the fifth when 2B Jose Peraza snapped a 14-inning scoreless streak with a solo homer.
Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor also hit a solo homer.
In the following inning, CF Kevin Pillar and catcher Tomas Nido singled to start off the inning and then pinch-hitter Jonathan Villar delivered with a RBI single.
The bats went quiet for the next couple of innings until the top of the ninth when Lindor led off with a double and after 1B Pete Alonso grounded out and LF Dom Smith walked, Pillar came through with a RBI single.
RHP Jacob deGrom cruised through the bottom of the first inning, and worked around a single by star SS Fernando Tatis Jr in the bottom of the second.
DeGrom had a 1-2-3 bottom of the third, but ran into some trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a single to 2B Jake Cronenworth, and then Tatis Jr reached on an error by Lindor and then he gave up a single to 1B Eric Hosmer to load the bases with one out.
DeGrom showed his trademark composure and why he's the best pitcher in baseball by coming back to strike out to RF Wil Myers and LF Tucupita Marcano to end the inning.
deGrom settled down with a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth inning and worked around a walk by Tatis Jr in the bottom of the sixth.
deGrom had a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning with two more strikeouts and was taken out with 85 pitches.
His final line was 7 innings, 0 runs, three hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts.
He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 0.62.
deGrom has now given up one or no runs in his first nine starts of the year.

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 2-0 tonight in San Diego for their second cosecutive loss and dropped their record to 27-23.
LHP Joey Lucchesi got the start against his former team and had a tough bottom of the first inning giving up a solo homer to 3B Manny Machado.
Luchessi settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third, and fourth innings.
He got into some trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off bunt single to RF Wil Myers and then two battes later, a single to catcher Webster Rivas.
Luchessi retired Padres starter LHP Blake Snell on a ground-out and then was taken out with runners on second and third with two out.
RHP Jacob Barnes came on and was able to retire LF Tommy Phan on a ground-out to end the inning.
Luchessi's final line was 4.2 innings, 4 hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts.

In the top of the seventh, they had their best scoring opportunity after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a singe and advanced to third om a two-base error by Phan.
Catcher James McCann followed with a strike-out and then 1B Pete Alonso poppped out and then 3B Brandon Drury struck out to end the inning.
McKinney led off with a walk in the top of the eighth and then 2B Jose Peraza grounded out into a force play and pinch-hitter Dom Smith struck out and then pinch-hitter Travis Blankenhorn grounded out to end the inning.
CF Kevin Pillar struck out to lead off the top of the ninth against Padres closer Mark Melancon and then Lindor singled, but McCann struck out on a close pitch that got McCann thrown out and than manager Luis Rojas was thrown out for coming out to argue defending McCann. Bench coach Dave Jaus took over as manager.
Alonso was able to come up and single, but Drury struck out for the last out of the game.

RHP Tijuan Walker started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up a one-out single and then a two-run homer to star SS Fernando Tatis Jr that went off of CF Mason William's glove.
Walker gave up another in the bottom of the fourth after he walked Padres catcher Victor Caratini and then allowed a double to Padres starter RHP Yu Darvish and a RBI single to CF Jurickson Profar.
Walker gave up an infield hit to Tatis Jr in the bottom of the fifth who then advanced to second on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a wild pitch and Walker was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs ( 3 earned runs), four walks and two strikeouts.
RHP Jacob Barnes followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.
LHP Aaron Loup then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
The bats went silent against Darvish for the five innings until the top of the sixth when SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and catcher James McCann followed with a two-run homer.
LF Dom Smith then was hit by a pitch and RF Billy McKinney walked. 3B Brandon Drury followed by reaching on an error by Tatis Jr on a fielder's choice which loaded the bases.
Pete Alonso came up as the pinch-hitter but grounded into a double play to end the inning and a further scoring threat.
In the top of the eighth inning, Lindor led off with a walk after McCann and LF Dom Smith were retired, McKinney hit a deep triple to right field to bring in Lindor, but Drury grounded out to end the innin.

The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 27-21.
The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after 3B Jonathan Villar and SS Francisco Lindor singled and then catcher James McCann continued his hot hitting with a three-run homer. McCann has hit well in the last games going for 7-14 with five extra-base hits in the last five games.
1B Pete Alonso, CF Kevin Pillar, and LF Dom Smith all followed with singles to load the bases and then RF Brandon Drury grounded into a double play which brought in another run.
In the top of the second, Villar doubled with one out and two batters later, McCann drove in his fourth run of the game with a RBI single.

The offense didn't do much for the next few innings until the top of the ninth when Lindor led off the inning with a single and reached second on an error by Diamondbacks CF Ketel Marte.
McCann grounded out, but after Lindor advanced to third on a passed ball by catcher Carson Kelly, 1B Pete Alonso came through and delivered the game-winning RBI single.
LHP David Peterson had a difficult bottom of the first inning allowing four runs on three hits and recorded only one out.
RHP Robert Gsellman had to come in and gave up a RBI single to Diamondbacks starter LHP Madison Bumgarner, but that run was charged to Peterson.
Gsellman stayed in and did an excellent job with 3.2 scoreless innings with two hits and one strikeout.
RHP Seth Lugo followed in his first appearance of the year and threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning, but gave up singles to SS Nick Ahmed and 2B Ildemaro Vargas which scord a run. Lugo was able to get out of the inning without allowing any more runs.
RHP Migeul Castro then threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings. Castro picked up his second win.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to pick up his tenth save of the season.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the San Diego Padres at 10:10 p.m.
Jonathan Villar Leaves Game With Hamstring Tightness

New York Mets infielder Jonathan Villar left tonight's game in the bottom of the sixth inning with hamstring tightness.
Villar's injury is a blow to an already delpleted team so hopefully he won't be for too long.

Mets Lose to Diamondbacks 6-5 in 10 innings after bullpen blows late lead

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 in Arizona in 10 innings tonight to snap their five-game winning streak and dropped their record to 6-5.
The bats were quiet for the first three innings until the top of the fourth when 1B Pete Alonso singled with with two outs and LF Dom Smith followed with a two-run homer.
In the top of the sixth inning, 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI triple.
Alonso then walked and Smith drove in Lindor with a sacfirice fly.
In the top of the tenth, catcher James McCann led off the inning with 2B Jose Peraza on second as the automatic "ghost runner" and drove him with a RBI double.
RHP Marcus Stroman cruised through the first five innings, but in the bottom of the sixth he ran into trouble after he gave up singles to CF Ketel Marte and 3B Eduardo Escobar and two batters later a three-run homer to 1b Pavin Smith.
Stroman was able to recover and didn't allow any more run in the inning and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was six innings, six hits, three runs, 0 walks and six strikeouts.
RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning.
LHP Aaron Loup then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, RHP Edwin Diaz came out and started out well striking out catcher Stephen Vogt, but then gave up a single to SS Nick Ahmed.
Diaz got pinch-hitter Domingo Leyba to ground out for the second out, but was not able to close it out after he gave up a game-tying RBI single to 3B Josh Rojas.
In the bottom of the tenth, RHP Trevor May came on for the save with the automatic runner at second, and got pinch-hitter Chad Kelly yto ground-out, but then walked Pavin Smith and gave up a RBI walk-off double to RF Josh Reddick.
The Mets next game is tomorrow at the Diamondbacks at 3:40 p.m.

Mets Claim Infielder Travis Blakenhorn Off Waivers

The New York Mets claimed infielder Travis Blankenhorn off waivers from the Seattle Marners this afternoon this afternoon.
Blakenhorn has been added to the 26-man roster and will join the team tonight in Arizona.
Infielder Wilfredo Tovar was designated for assignment as corresponding roster move.
Blakenhorn was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
He hit .277 with 19 homers and 54 RBI between Advanced-A and Double-A in 2019.
Blakenhorn was 1-3 with a double in his only Major League appearance in 2020.
